    Hi

    We have a 2009 Tacoma 4 door 4X4 with the V6 engine.

We now have the red airbag display that indicates the driver’s airbag is not functional. At the same time the horn quit working.

I have checked the fuses and the horn does work when the battery is reconnected and you have to stop it from beeping by using the door unlock button on the key fob.

Anybody here have any idea what is wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    Phil P

Spiral cable inside the steering column (sometimes called the "clock spring"). They are known to go bad.

Yeah, there's actually an active recall on it. You should be able to get a dealership to install it for free.

There are also tutorials about how to do it yourself if you've got the tools and confidence.
    Not a very expensive part.

Mine was in crappy shape the day I got my truck (3 years ago) because the cruise control never worked. The horn went in and out periodically so I knew it was messed up but didn't really do much.

Wasn't until I planned a 3,000 mile road trip this last Spring that it dawned on me that having a fully functional airbag was probably a good idea but also needing cruise control for the really long stretches of highway. Took my truck to a local dealership and had it back in less than 2 hours. It's probably a 30 minute or less job but I had too much going on and it was getting too close to the trip and didn't want to mess anything up. Can't beat FREE99!

    Hi

With the holidays coming and some breakdowns on some of the larger equipment I haven’t ha time to get back here.

Thanks for the information and I will have someone check with the dealer about the recall.

Can anyone give me a part number for this part?

I will post the results here.

There are two different part numbers one is for a truck with steering wheel controls and the other is for a truck without steering wheel controls.

Best to go to the dealer parts counter and have them look it up by your VIN Number.
