Driver’s side fender

anyone ever have trouble finding an OEM fender for an 03 Tacoma? Mine has been at the bodyshop for 3 weeks now. Nobody in the area has one. It’s on backorder now. Should be arriving this week

 

OEM new is $$$ and even used, good ones can be hard to come by

I did replace my front fenders with aftermarket fenders. Tried to find used ones, but most were eaten up by rust just as bad as my old ones

 

Oh ok thanks. Mine got hit while parked. So other person’s insurance is paying. I just found it so hard to believe them that they can’t find any in my area so they found a place, I think a dealer but it’s on back order now.

Bodyshop said it’ll be new from dealer so we’ll see. Estimated time of arrival is tomorrow

6 lug. Bodyshop got an OEM on back order

 

You can either pay more and wait an indeterminate amount of time for a new OEM one, or have the body shop get an aftermarket one or a used one (car-part.com has tons), and play less, and have it done sooner.

They're going to have to paint it no matter what, so might as well pay half and get a used one.

 

Wouldn’t bother with cheap aftermarket fenders. They’ll never fit right unless they’re CAPA (I think is what it’s called) certified. @eon_blue can attest

 

yeah get a CAPA certified aftermarket one at least, or hold out for the right color used one to pop up online somewhere.

New ones are still available from Toyota but they don't come painted and they're $$$

I got a ~$60 aftermarket one that wasn't CAPA certified and it installed easily enough but the gap between it and the hood is wider than the OEM gap on the other side. It's slightly off where the gaps are.

The $40 ones I was talking about from rockauto are CAPA.

Granted, even $40 is pretty absurdly cheap for a fender. I'd pay more than that for a wrecking yard one, lol

 

I ask because I'm in the pursuit for a R fender I can cut up for a snorkel so I don't bone my stock one.

 

My truck was in the shop a few months back and they replaced driver side with new OEM fender and there didn’t seem to be any back order on it.

 

Yeah Rockauto has the CAPA ones but when I was trying to order one from them last year, they wouldn't ship it to CA because of the stupid prop 69 (or whatever it is) regulations. I ended up getting a different one instead.
