Unless you’re within the warranty, good luck.

    Thank you forum world.
I was smoking a j in my driveway and finally put effort into finding my drivers seat fault in my 14 trd 4x4 double cab. With like 300000 km, tons of spills, hunting in the truck, off roading, name it. Bought it new off the lot.
A whole 5 seconds... ima swap the passengers lolll

    FUCKIN LOVE AUTO FORUMS

Edit... I jumped to conclusions by assuming there's was one for each seat. There's not.

Well played Toyota. Well played. Calling fuckyouship tomorrow for quote on part and male connector pin for self repair.

You don’t want to use the same connector because that is one of the reasons they fail. You want a better quality connector. If you look back at my repair, you’ll see that a much better quality connector was used. I had this repaired about a year ago with no issues.

'17 Tacoma SR5, same issue here, drivers side. Anyone have any luck with the process if you're out of warranty? This is obviously a common issue.

If you look at my previous posts, I believe this is the way to fix the seats properly. I had an electrician friend put proper sealed connectors and the seats have been flawless since. I did both sides at the same time as the passenger side will most likely go out soon after the driver depending on how often it’s used.

You should also contact your local dealership as well as Toyota head office. (The squeaky wheel will eventually get the grease).

Done. Toyota Canada informed me there isn't a current recall or manufacturer issue and advised me to bring it to a dealership for a diagnostic.
Local dealership advised they can look at it and it would be roughly 30 mins to an hour of labour to look at it.

Just looked...seems like an easy fix.
These seat heaters are fused, Just wondering on potential issues with wiring directly to the board.

Nothing from Toyota Canada. Spoke with them this morning on my issue. I stated it seemed to be a fairly common issue..their response was "do you realize how many Toyota vehicles are on the road? It doesn't become a recall issue unless there are thousands of cases".

So...I guess we wait until someone's Taco burns.

That’s exactly what I told them, you have probably ran across the same article or information like I did that this actually was a problem in a Mercedes resulting in someone’s death. I have to admit, I definitely had their attention after bringing that up.
I may not have started this group, but as you can see, I’ve been there since page one and continuously try to give people the easy information needed to start a case file, because yes, just like the three leaf leaf springs issues, it took them over a decade to finally acknowledge, and addressed them and make them a recall.

Mine has been flawless for a while now. The seats, get really freaking hot too. I’m not sure if that’s because of the heavier gauge wire or if it’s just the way they were from factory

We have the same issue on driver side, 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. Just got off the phone with the corporate number. They said that I would have to go to the dealership and get it diagnosed. Which here in Alaska is around $200 or more. I was also told since the truck is out of warrenty it wouldn't be covered. I was also told there isn't any other reports on this issue yet. Which from this forum and other things I have seen online is a load of crap. I was also told that they could report it after but most of the cases get denied.

People should be reporting it as a safety issue or fire hazard. This might help get their attention.
