Will buy another one and reinforce it from inside with fiberglass. Just have to check the gap with clay so it fits. May have to reinforce only certain spots.

I was just mulling this topic today. May try to fab something out aluminum. Hell, I've even considered using wood. I've got a good friend who does cabinetry.
I'll post up if I find a reasonable solution

A good craftsman can have a small side business making these out of aluminum, wood or fiberglass that does not crack.

Consider me a possible customer if my fiberglass reinforcement does not pan out.

    Weak design IMHO.

Mine is laying around some place I took it off never put it back on.

It cracks I think because of the flexing of the seat as one gets in and out.

Very seldom does the right side ever break

I drilled a small hole in mine right through the plastic and the metal seat rail.
Used a small 6/32 screw with small washer and nut.
    Havent had a problem yet.

I thought about that. Just wondering if the washer is enough to spread the stress over enough area. Definitely a good fix.
Maybe a spacer/stand-off between the trim piece and metal rail.

What is the strongest epoxy that you know of that adheres to plastic.

I want to brush a few coats from inside, strengthen the plastic cover and see if it works. Epoxy should be stronger than fiberglass and multiple thin coats can be applied, that's why I want to try it.

That looks like it'll do it. Thanks.

BTW Bel-Zona is the strongest epoxy I know of.....you can't afford it.

Mine aren't broke at all but my driver's side seat was starting to rip. This happened on my other Tacoma also. So I got seat covers. Having a lift and sliding in & out of the truck everyday was taking it's toll.

The carbon fiber seem like a good option. I would think any epoxy/fiberglass added to the backside of the stock piece would eventually just end up seperating.

It would need the CF for sure for strength and rigidity. If you lay it on the with enough mats criscrossing it would be as strong as steel The original piece would just be the form mold.
unfourtantly i have to find one to do it. mines history
