I have a 2006 tacoma and only the Driver side break light isnt working. Changed the bulb and tested the bulb on the other break light to make sure it was working and it is. I checked the small 10amp fuse under the hood and under the dash, both are good. I would think that if the break switch was out, neither break light would work?
Also, my third break light up on the cab, has one bulb not working. The other two inside are. Would this be causing my driver side break light not to work? When I turn on my turn signals they blink really fast like a bulb is out, and the only one that is in fact out is one of three tiny bulbs located on the break light Cab. I will add that my plug in for my plug for my trailer lights was ripped off when doing stupid stuff. Could that be causing this also? I have a new harness and plug on the way, just wanting to get this figured out. Thank you !!!

You added that your trailer plug was torn off I'd start there, I suspect you tore a wire going to your left stop/turn light.
I've also attached the wiring diagram for the stop lights.

When I break a glass a light does not turn on.

When I step on the brakes to stop the truck a stop light does turn on.

Break is not the same as Brake.

Sounds like a wire problem. Start at the failed tail light, follow the wires......I suspect you will find a BREAK in the wire.

A $10 multimeter can help you diagnose this, and many other, electrical issues and save you a lot of time.

Thanks for the knowledge everyone, I really appreciate it. I totally didn't catch myself using "break" for "brake" Knute. Speaking of breaks, give me one, I'm just a dumb jarhead

    No, not dumb.

I have the deepest respect for the Marines.

My oldest brother was a Marine during Vietnam. He is now 74 yo and can still kick ass. His shooting skill remains sharp and amazing. He was security on the USS Constellation.

From deep in my soul. Thank you for your service to our country.

Well thank you Knute. And thank your brother for me as well, from one Marine to another. I hope I am still kicking ass at his age.
