So I contacted my insurance and filed the claim, they gave me the option to use one of their appraised shops but I just told them I'd like to use my local Toyota dealership. $500 deductible, and they handle the rest. Hopefully this doesn't take too long as I'm basically at the mercy of whoever did this or does this considering my actuator is wide open behind the tape I put.

Look your doors with your key fob, if someone with out your key fob unlocks your door the alarm will beep the horn. Unless that someone has cloned your key fob.

That make sense yeah.. I don’t have a key fob it’s a MT, but I’m thinking if I lock it with the regular alarm button if they turned the actuator with a screw driver would it still sound the alarm?

It should work that way. I have never locked the door on a 3rd gen.

When I was 17, I lost both sets of keys for my car. The locksmith took the cylinder out of one of the doors, opened it up and made it key from it. It was a long time ago but I recall it being a pretty simple process.

They aren't going to be driving your truck away with a key like that but they could still unlock it. I wouldn't leave anything valuable in your truck for a while. Regardless of a stolen door lock, it's good practice.

Sorry to hear that. No, you don't need to change all keys\ locks. You just need to change the lock for that door. Do you park at your driveway, parking lot or street parking? It's clear that those thiefs are stupid. Even if they open the door, wouldnt the alarm go off. It's also clear that they were not looking for stuff in your tuck. They were going to steal your truck.
Suggestion- GPS tracker. Protect your key signal.

OP ... You might want to think of a "steering wheel lock" until you get this solved with a new lock, recoding & etc.

A cheap Amazon battery camera (linked to your cell) and/or a small proximity alarm would work too.

Someone tried to steal it. That’s exactly how they stole mine.

The alarm won’t go off. They unlock it by jumping the wires going to the electronic lock so nothing sounds when the door is opened. Then they just use the obd port and reprogram the key.

OP you’re lucky. Something interrupted them.

They would still need a physical key for the keyed ignition.

Those OEM alarms don't usually draw much attention, they aren't that loud and unless you are ten feet from the vehicle, and listening for it. If you're in the house watching Netflix and eating popcorn, you aren't going to hear it.

So update: I tried opening the door with a flat head through the actuator while the alarm engaged.. to my horror the alarm doesn’t go off and I can open the door with a slight twist to the right with the flat head on the actuator. Put duct tape to cover the hole for now and planning on taking some fuses out tonight incase of a second attempt… I’m thinking if they got spooked last night they might come back to finish the job.. otherwise my poor taquito is in fate’s hands for now..

I’m hoping they drilled it enough to where it doesn’t provide any details to them but yes it’s a possibility, very likely.. that’s why I’m telling the insurance and shop that so they switch all the locks and ignition, etc etc.. idk I’m hoping they do, if not I’ll have to live with that possibility until I’m able to move out of this neighborhood in early July..

Oh yeah I guess they could. Too bad the trucks don't have a quick release steering wheel. That would make it hard to drive.

You could pull the wheels off and put the truck on jack stands, doubt if car thieves show up with spare wheels.

I dropped my comprehensive co pay from 50 dollars to zero. Costs 14 dollars extra a year. And it covers catalytic converter theft as well as this kind of Tom Foolery

Nice to know it's an easy process to adjust the cylinder with the appropriate settings. I always make sure I take out all my valuables and anything seeming valuable from plain sight. Thanks for the words man
