driver side door no longer locks

I found out today while trying to put in my new alarm that my driver side door is not locking AT ALL. I put it on the lock position and I can still open it. How do I fix this?

 

anyone? I can't lock my driver door PERIOD, it's like it is permanently unlocked.

 

yup, it's all there nothing seems to be broken. I checked the lock mechanism and it moves like normal, everything. The door just won't lock period, I put the lock in lock, still opens. I am not sure of how it got this way though, nothing seems to be loose/nothing rattling around in the door, etc. The pass is FINE, I locked that and it stayed locked, and vice versa, works as it should.

The rod that goes to the lock mechanism-is it still there...your power lock system-is it stuck...did you try the key? I got nothing else except take it in.

 

nothing seems like it's missing/broken/out of order/etc. yup tried it all. nothing worked, it's like the lock is useless right now. I can only close and open the door at will. thanks I'm gonna have to bring it in. Irony, I brought it in for a simple oil change/recall for pedal the other day, and this happens.

Yeah I feel bad there is no solution for ya here but bright side is this is an easy fix-just a bit of cash to do it. Surely worth it for that great truck

Check the door lock mechanism. Make sure its plugged in...and run some tests.

You could swap the door lock mechanism from side to side and see if it narrows it down to the mechanism.

 

..X2.. Definitely take the panel off and look at the door lock actuator to see if it moves while you are arming/disarming. If not, check the voltage to the actuator to make sure it's not a bad actuator vs. no power supply..I would do this instead of switching actuators from the passenger side,unnecessary labor..

 

Thats exactly what it is! My Honda accord just had the exact same issue... its def your door lock actuator... its a $25ish part from the dealer... or look online, but you can replace it yourself, they are a beast to get to on the acord, haven't had to do my tacoma yet. But thats your issue that you are describing. Def fix it yourself, they will charge an assload

 

originally it didn't come with door actuators, then I fried one yesterday. but it should still lock none the less. I am speaking of the actual door lock mechanism in general, it won't lock (leaving the door handle useless from the outside). No temperament nothing, the pass side is fine. I can lock that manually and it will work like it should. I am going to go to the dealership today to see if they can fix it. It's a base model so I mean even though there isn't door actuators, the mechanism should still be able ot lock intruders out. Thanks for the input guys, I am really worried as well as a bit pissed but what can I really do at this point

 

found a nice replacement for the ac on Sonic (already ordered it, should be here (my pad) in 1/2 days or so)), it's cool since I'm out in CA where their base is (I think). thanks guys, lol didn't see this post until the last minute, going to have to wait on the ac though. It won't get to me since it's already the weekend

 

Same thing with my '08. Driver's side front door AND rear passenger door... very frustrated with all the quality complaints with my truck. I've had it for 3 years now, but it's my first Toyota, and I really expected better quality.

 

Try pulling the lever from the inside and hold it, then manually push the lock button with your other hand.

 

well got back from the dealership, $105 JUST to look at what is going on then an additional to fix w/e the hell is wrong. I'm gonna go the route of the actuator (which is on the way). Also going to see if about what Monster suggested. I'm a bit pissed, I too expected BETTER from this fucking company, and yes this IS my first Toyota, before that I have ALWAYS stuck with American vehicles. Guess I should next time around.

well still didn't work. I can open and close the door at will, which is making me worry more now. Hopefully when my new ac comes in I am praying that is will solve this, if not I'm going to have to rely on the alarm going off when someone opens the door and sets the door trigger off

 

WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! it was the actuator. I swapped it out for a new one (around $6 or so shipped) v. the $105/PLUS that the dealership would charge as well as NOT replace the actuator given that it's an aftermarket part. Thanks again guys.

 

It's good to hear that your issue is fixed. That's what's great about TW. There are always members that has gone through the same issues that each one of us has encountered.
