That dust seal goes on the back (cv side) of the spindle or steering knuckle. You pry it out with a flathead screwdriver, be mean to it. Tap the new one in using the dust cap (perfect fit to drive it in). The dust cap can be tricky but shouldn’t be too bad, if it starts crooked it won’t seat, has to go on nice and even.

I pushed the cv partially out the back of the spindle (how do you get it totally out of the spindle ?)and wiped it clean best I could with paper towels wiped around the old seal cleaned everything up and regreased using mobile 1 synthetic (for the drive shaft bearings) . Assembled and torqued the axle shaft to 173 ft pounds , I could not get a crow foot in to retorq the 17mm holding the bearing assembly to the spindle

I just use a box wrench to tighten them. As for the seal one the back of the spindle; go to home Depot and in the plumbing section you want to buy a 3-in fitting that slides onto a pipe on one end and has threads in the other. By the plug that fits. That plug is what you will hammer on. The seal on the back of the spindle fits perfectly with that plumbing fitting. One wrap of tape, three taps of the hammer, and it should be in.

Just buy new seals. You’ll need one dust seal and one oil seal. One plugs into the knuckle and one onto the end of the CV. They are expensive but without them your bearings won’t last half as long. Make sure to sand away any rust before trying to get it to fit.
