Hey all. I've seen how a lot of people are experiencing a howling noise with their driver side window. I experience that at or below 50mph. However, I also experience a rather robust noise while at highway speeds. It's not consistent and typically happens when traveling around 70mph in combination with a gust of wind. Does anyone else experience this? I don't experience any vibration anywhere. Disclaimer: I had help video taping.

Has anyone else experienced this? I plan on bringing this to the dealer's attention soon.

oh yea, please learn that the search function doesn't just look pretty but actually works. It is a common issue, the howling and whatnot.

Wow, that's a pretty fun way to help people, didn't realize you were the resident expert on Tacoma sounds.

Third gen or not, 2nd gens have the same issue, I in fact have the same issue and have searched far and wide on here and everyone has a different answer. Its either the weather strips on: The Grill, The Roof, The Windshield. It does however sound like its coming from the mirrors for some reason. I think usually its from poor sealant used on the windshields, but there are a few people on here that have fixed all 3 and still have the sound. Which, some people on here seem to think screaming at people to use the search function is more beneficial. But yeah, there a alot of 2nd gen posts about wind noise, and I usually don't stray in to the third gen world much, but jackass above here brought out the helpful TW member that I try to be.

didn't realize I need to be 'certified' before responding....the howling is a common issue. You forgot about the LCA's.....oh yea that also howls(fix is duct tape, yes duct tape). As for the screaming about using the search function, I was not....just meerly making a sarcastic point.

You don't need to be certified for anything, I'm just making the point that this forum is meant to be helpful, if you don't have anything helpful to respond with, why even bother, other than being a dick to tell someone to use the search function. Yes, there are other threads about this, but alot of them are just people agreeing that there is noise, but so far no one has pinpointed a certain noise. In fact, the time it took you to respond with both of your posts you could have used the search function and linked the issues for the OP.

linked, then he wouldn't learn how to use the search function, and it's not "dick" I'm an "ass", there is a difference.

Ok, whatever dude. Enjoy your trolling, I've already helped the OP as best I can. Glad to see the expected caliber of 3rd gen owners is winning through with you. I'll go back to avoiding the 3rd Gen forum per usual.

Thanks for the info. I searched but could not find anything about the noise as reflected in the video. I will let the dealer worry about it. Thanks.

My drivers side rear view mirror whistles at 35-45mph or sooner on a windy day... turn on radio helps me. I only have that one sound issue.

Same here, I have the exact same noise as OP, but its on both sides of the vehicle which leads me to believe theres something going on with the mirrors.

OP: I noticed the exact same thing when I was going 65-75 mph, with gusts of wind always causing the noise. I pulled in the mirror, and the noise stopped. It's got to be the mirror... no noises from the passenger side for me.

I work as an aerodynamics engineer, so of course I couldn't help myself... I experimented with putting pieces of duct tape & plastic in different spots (on the vortex generators below and on the side of the mirror, on spots of the windshield frame, etc.). Nothing I did completely solved the problem, but it certainly seems like the whistle is happening somewhere between the mirror and windshield frame. Not sure there's much to do about it, but if I find a solution I'll let you know!

I'm almost positive there is a TSB for this. Let me dig it up.

EDIT: Here you go. Just because it doesn't apply to your year doesn't mean they won't fix it.

I know on my 2nd gen it makes the same noise under certain highway wind conditions. The source for me at least is the driver door weather seal nearest where the side mirror mounts. If you push on the interior triangular plastic piece it will go away. I've seen people do some weird things to mash the seal tighter against the door frame but have yet to fix it myself.

This was my dealers fix. A long piece of cylindrical foam running the length of the window seal. Seems to have quieted it down significantly. Howling noise in a crosswind is gone now. Little less wind noise too, but still quite noticeable on the highway. Not that I care with a sub and cat back exhaust with AT tires on it. I'm not going for silent, just wanted that dang whistling howl gone and this seemed to do the trick.

This one didn't apply, the noise changes when you push in the door. The TSB refers to the windshield moulding on the top making the reed noise, I worked for toyota and did a few of them.

I am thinking it the seal for the door making the noise.. NO updated TSB for it as of yet.

Yes, you're thinking that's the noise. This could very well be the source for the OP. This way he's educated on all possible sources of the noise.

I've got that some noise, under the same conditions. I installed a set of window visors and it's significantly reduced the howling. It hasn't completely gone away though. I use the in-channel visors. Maybe the visors that cover the entire window would get rid of the noise altogether. I didn't know that there is a TSB, I'll show this to my toyota dealer and see if he can do anything about it to completely get rid of the noise.

At highway speed mine sounds like the door or window is cracked. I'm dropping it off at the dealer next week for another issue and will mention this then. I'll keep y'all posted.
