2012 xcab. I've been battling with a drivers side window that pops loose from the clips and falls forward since January. Dealer originally referred me to an auto glass specialist, claiming they didn't have the proper adhesive to reattach the clip (WTF??). Specialist has "fixed" it 3 times, even replaced the clips, and it just came loose again. Got my $$ back from specialist, called dealer, and they want to replace the GLASS! I asked why the glass-it's not exposed to any weathering or UV where the clips attach. It's glass for goodness sake-it doesn't break down. He just said "that's what is recommended" when I pressed for an explanation. Ended the conversation by asking him to call me back when he has a reason why the glass needs replacing.

    Any ideas from y'all?

A lot of the times, the clips that hold the glass to the window regulator can break or slide around. Only way to really fix this is to replace the glass. Not sure what your issue is since there are no pics, but if one of those permanent clips has broken the adhesive that holds the clip to the glass it’s time for new glass. I have seen this happen before a few times.

see those little clips. if they break your sol. if they urethaned them back on its just a band aid. if you live in a cold area it can put a lot of stress on the track when the window is frozen.

OK-I'm a bit of a newbie with repairs, thought the clips could be replaced without replacing the glass, since the glass is still intact and without any marring. Any ideas why/how the glass changes so the clips won't stay attached? (trying to learn so as not to repeat something that may have caused an issue)

What the glass shop probably tried to do was a band aid. Only way to truly fix it is to replace the glass. It can be done by yourself if you are mechanically capable. Don’t try to roll your window down if it’s frozen.

I've watched the how-to videos, just to get an understanding of the process. Will certainly let someone else take everything apart!
