I would like it for use in the city. I HATE driving in dense urban traffic.

I love driving everywhere else, though.

Driverless/autonomous cars have already killed dozens of people. Whether it be pedestrians the sensor didn't pick up. A few Tesla drivers have died while on Autopilot.

Lazy people that don't want to drive only see the benefit for them, they get to sleep while the car takes them to work. Damn snowflakes.

What would be the point of a driverless Tacoma truck? Driverless vehicles just get you from a to b. May as well take public transportation if getting from a to b is all you’re after. I prefer not to relinquish my driving role until I have to.

I think there are some in congress that wouldn't mind taking away more of our rights.

I always thought if I was using Autopilot in a Tesla, how could I trust it? I don't know what it sees or is planning to do. The counterpoint I've heard is the computer thinks faster than you. I don't care if it won't tell me waht it is thinking. If I see an obstacle up ahead or a lane divider I want to know the car sees it too. Could be simple as a 3D modeling system on the display showing the obstacle up ahead when the car sees it and giving me an indication of what the car plans to do. I guess the current method is wait to see if it intends to crash and try not to. No thanks. Or just go to sleep and not wake up dead.

In reality though, none of us can control other drivers on the road, only ourselves. However as a decent driving human, you should have some level of intuition when someone is going to cut you off or pull out in front of you or other various asshole things. I'm more surprised when they don't do dick moves I expected.

Yes. The human intuition is the key there. NO computer will ever be able to compute/judge what we humans can while driving. A dog, cat, or child running out into the street might be picked up as something else or not picked up at all.

The real tough thing will be when you are faced with hard choices. Like, you can drive the car off the road, and maybe kill yourself or a pedestrian and destroy the car, or keep moving straight forward and kill a bunch of daycare kids that wandered into the road. Those types ethical dilemmas do come up.

Drunk drivers, sleepy drivers, bad drivers, distracted drivers. All good reasons for autonomous. I'd still rather take that chance and keep my freedom. Just like firearms. Do people accidentally kill each other? Yes, do I want to give up my rights because of it? NO.

The driverless car would make a great, stable platform for drive-by shootings. Like, you wouldn’t need a driver. You could just say “Siri.......payback time......drive me real slow and straight past Applebee’s........so I can spray those muthas with poppa AK”

I guess the autonomous lovers never saw Maximum Overdrive. I'll pass!

Give me a driverless RV and I'll be happy. Then I can leave work on friday in it and head west for hunting or snowmobiling and sleep the whole trip and wake up ready to ride or hunt in the morning.

Driverless anything is a great idea, driving for fun I totally enjoy. Daily commute and work travel blows. I want driverless tech immediately, but would still like to drive on occasion.

I'm a huge fan of driving, but there are definitely times I want to just wake up every few hours to refuel.

I mean, it would be amazing for trips to be able to jump in here outside DC, let the truck drive straight through the night, and be in Colorado tomorrow for some wheeling and camping. Opens up a ton of opportunities that don't involve 12+ hour days behind the wheel and you can actually be rested to enjoy the destination.

The question will be, if “driving on occasion” becomes the new normal, will human-directed driving even be allowed? Like, will you be insured, or liable, when you are behind the wheel and not AI?

I can hear the snowflakes already: “My children aren’t safe with all these ‘drivers’ around. We must create safe-spaces, free of these human-driven cars”.

I'm not into the whole driverless thing, but if the industry goes that way, then I won't have much of a choice.

    Wouldn't want a driverless vehicle.

I was thinking, what if everyone rode the bus? There would be so many buses on the road, that it would take hours if not days to get somewhere since buses follow a set route.

I fear that once driverless tech hits, it won't stop until it is 100% autonomous, with no ability to drive your own car. I think that's the endgame. There will be a transition period, but I think eventually the ability to drive your own car will go away.
