I love driving as well but I wouldn't say no to at least having the option to press a button on my phone and have my taco come pick my drunk ass up at the bar at 2 AM and "watch netflix" with some dirty-one-thirty in the back on the way home

See that's it. Right now they are like, baby just the tip! As we all know it will keep going until they have their way. Sucks there are a ton of people out there that do not see the downsides.

I think right now it is perfect. If you don't feel like driving, buy a Tesla or another car that drives itself. If you are a real mofo you can still drive a regular car.

Yep, I was a huge mass transit fan when I worked in DC. There, damn near everyone is using carpools, metro trains and buses, etc.

Here in SLC, public transit just doesn't work. We have the street cars and the busses and a longer range train that runs between our bigger cities, but it is 3x as long of a trip to get from point A to B vs driving there and is actually more expensive vs the gas (ignoring insurance, etc.)

Public transit is depressing AF. If that's our future, god help us all.

Quite honestly, what is the solution for large cities? The traffic is already terrible. You going to have 10 lanes going each way eventually?

It is or will be a necessity for any major city sooner or later. And that's fine, it should be used by those for whom it works well. A well designed transit system makes life better even for those who don't use it by taking cars off the road.

Dedicated, for-profit off-road courses. You can rent a Jeep to drive. $300/hour.

Again, a perfectly fine system for those who have absolutely zero interest in driving or owning a car.

I'm a nerd. I admit it. Driverless AI systems are cool as hell! I'm not afraid of the technology, and I think I'd use it a lot. I'm more interested the possibilities in the future. Wondering where you parked? Non-issue. Call your truck and she'll come get you. Or can't find a spot? Get out in front and let her do the grunt work. And valet parking instantly becomes extinct. It's not so much about it doing things you can do, it's about letting it do the things you don't want to.

And and some point, DUI/DWI is no longer even a thing. So there's that, too!

A ton of human jobs become extinct, truck drivers, taxi, etc. Also imagine the tax revenue losses. Cops give out tons of tickets due to human mistakes. You wouldn't have your own insurance, the auto maker has to insure the car if it is 100% autonomous.

All some people think about are: I want autonomous so I can be lazy yasss!! :angrygirl:

Then one day the aliens who are secretly directing these changes tell the cars to “drive all humans into the meat-cake factory”. What then?

If all the cars had to come to the front of the walmart parking lot to pick people up, major congestion. Just saying.

Good news is we will probably be dead when this happens. This is ok boomer problems, new generations don’t have as much fear in technology as the older generations. You saw this when PCs took over and mobile phones. Any of you want to go back to no internet?

We are still trying to get self driving off the ground, it’s going to take awhile before it’s even remotely considered as mandated. Once it gets to that point, the population resistant to it will be an extremely small percentage.

While I will never own a driverless vehicle, I’m fine with everyone else having one. People can’t drive for crap nowadays!

I'm 100% with you and consider driving to be so good it's downright therapeutic by way of the freedom you mention. it's one of the reasons I'm in a modded Tacoma with a 6sp. I'm driving until my own wheels fall off, not to mention my truck's.

Although a driver-less Taco sounds odd, for some of us it would be amazing. Trust me, the purist in me died the moment I started driving the 5 fwy in LA. Takes me 1hr to go 13 miles. There's nothing engaging or fun about that.
