put a 2" spacer in the front now running 18" rims and 33" tires. At 30-40mph I get a vibration. I put it in to 4H and the vibration goes away.

if it does it is a drivers side needle bearing in the front diff...

    Does this sound right?

Is this on a 2016? If so it sounds just like the dreaded 2nd Gen front differential vibe.

If it is the same issue I don't think the bearing is bad, but it will annoy the he'll out of you for the next 100,000 miles.

My 2007 had this same vibration on the drivers side after a 2 inch coil lift. The issue was hit or miss with second gen owners after installing lifts. Some had it some did not. This will be the first case in a 2016 however.

Yes. It's a vibration between 30-40mph and goes away completely in 4H.

Can I just drive the truck in 4H around town ?

I'm taking it in to the dealer Saturday then likely take out the front spacer and get smaller tires and see if that helps.

Why would you risk any further harm to your truck by not knowing what's causing the vibration instead of taking it to the dealer since it's under warranty?

I think that Toyota recently reissued the needle bearing. I can't remember if I read it on here or yahoo but I read an article that showed the old bearing and the new one... very slight visual difference but it was different. I think it came out in the summer. Not sure if 3rd gen got rid of the needle bearing, kept the old one or used the new one....

what about adding a diff drop kit? would that maybe remove the vibration. the needle bearing cannot be bad at 200 miles but maybe the pressure on it from lift is causing the vibration?

my guess is they kept it all the same... Toyota did not go out of their way to change things on the 3rd gen.

Hopefully I have the new needle bearing and it is a winner.... I got the needle bearing replaced for a small deductible by the dealer in October. I would have preferred the ECGS bushing but they would not do it and I could not beat the price.

got this from a different forum on Tacoma's (I have no idea whether this is true stuff... just info)

After 10 years of production Toyota has finally issued a TSB. T-SB-0026-15, dated May 15, 2015 is applicable to 2005-2015 Tacomas, 2007-2014 FJ Cruisers and 2004-2015 4Runners. TSB's are not safety recalls but rather guidance documents intended to help their technicians identify problems.

    ...

Is There a Needle Bearing on the New Trucks Too?? - The Parts Catalog
Yes, sadly. A dealer was kind enough to allow me to peruse what exists of the parts catalog for the new trucks. As of a few days ago the manual for the new trucks was clearly preliminary and appeared to be in a sort of "Draft" form. I can only state what I believe the part number is as this information is subject to change when new info. becomes available.

Also, it does not appear that the old needle bearing has gone away at all and you can still end up with the thing. The TSB assigns our old crummy needle bearing to the 4Runners, and the Tacoma and FJ Cruisers get the new part number...well, kind of...

Part number is the same as the TSB updated needle bearing.

My 2016 SR-5 Tacoma has 700 miles and it's at the dealer getting the front differential needle bearing replaced.
It had the same symptoms as described above, 30-40 mph and a vibration could be felt in the steering wheel every 2-3 seconds.
Sure doesn't sound like Toyota fixed the issue yet.

Even if they redesigned or changed mfr for the needle bearing, it could still have the same Toyota part number. Just saying that part number may or may not mean anything.
