Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
After some issues with the distributor, the materials that I ordered a few weeks back showed up.

I made some mid build design changes as well, and will probably tweak it a bit here and there, plus I need to figure out what I want to do about the floor mat causing the front end to sit a little high.

I have to secure the birch panels that hold the Packout plates to the 80/20 extrusions, which I’m currently designing and printing a drilling guide to make that easier (you can see my helper here), and then after a week or so of driving around with it, I’ll pull it all apart and have the birch sprayed with bed liner.

I am 6’3” and 240lbs, and according to my second ex wife “always have to drive like a gangster”, so my main goal was to be able to get the drawer packout as a base unit, and then a crate as well. ✅

The entire unit pivots up if needed, and there is plenty of access to the OEM cubby when down as well.

plenty of room for the door cubby to be used and not hit anything, since there are about 45 cup holders in the door, I felt that preserving their use was important.

I’ll be building a backing plate to it as well, and the goal for that is mainly to supply room for the silly amounts of 12vdc “stuff” that I’ll be adding as soon as get a few other projects finished…

Started on the back wall today and got most of it finished.

it folds forward and all of the 12VDC junk will live there. It will be held to the wall by a rubber hood style latch in order to keep it from vibrating and rattling.

I have decided that I will be pulling the birch out and using some 1/4” aluminum plate instead. It will drop the packout down 1/2” and also be more inline with the back of the passenger seat back tray.

Maximize storage, provide a safe and accessible mounting area for electrical things, add modularity and ease of use, remove a seat that never gets used.

depending on the job at hand, I can grab what I need and toss it in the back.

the bed will be getting storage added as well, once the cap arrives. A29C1696-4077-40BD-BC0A-8E27B5606221.jpg

I mean, do you have a job or expertise that requires you to have a full complement of Home Depot tools?
I have thought about this but my load out would be so varied that anything more than a flat platform with tie downs would be tóo specific.
I might need a bottle jack and a power planer and an ax. Really varied load.

I do. And not just Home Depot tools…

I may be wiring a police car one day and installing concrete anchors the next day. The day after that I may be building a chicken coop.

So why a specific tool box? The exams you gave require vastly different tools.

The wide range of the Packout lineup has always been able to handle my needs.

It was also the largest volume system and most varied when I started buying into it, and I think that still stands.

there isn’t a single system that you can buy that will fit all of your needs, but it doesn’t make sense to work with the incompatible options of having multiple brands of organization.

too invested (and happy with my investment) to change platforms now.

This is cool. I have the poor mans packout system (craftsman versastack) and this has given me some inspiration to do something similar!

I have been thinking about this for awhile I knew I could have found someone smarter than me to figure most of it out for me. Haha love the build.
