The hard part is getting them off. I use a thin cut off wheel on the grinder to make a cut inboard of the ears. Then you are only hammering out one cup out at a time, makes it easy. I have not checked if a sawzall with diablo blade would also work, less messy??

"A vise is used to remove the u-joint by pressing the bearing cups out. A small socket is positioned over one bearing cap (use a socket just slightly smaller than the diameter of the bearing cap) and a larger socket is placed over the opposite bearing cap to receive the cap as it is pressed out of the yoke by tightening the vise."

I've used this method^^^^^ It's a lot better than using a hammer I just used old sockets I never use anymore and a thick round metal shim I had laying around. Nice and slow on the vice, and it's a DIY press.

Where did you pick up the replacement nut you mentioned?
What is the min size of a 3-jaw puller to pull off the carrier bearing?
    Thanks

The nut was purchased at the local Toyota dealer. IIRC, cost was <$2 with tax.

Didn't use a puller. Father-In-Law used a pneumatic chisel with a hammer point. The bearing was shot. It came off in pieces. Outer race, then inner race.....
