    hey guys.
    2015 Tacoma TRD Off Road.

we went camping recently to Usal beach and there was a lot of water crossings that were 2 feet, sometimes 2.5 feet deep. Driving home from the trip, we heard a squeal like a wet serpentine belt. It came and went. Turns out my carrier bearing called it quits.

bought the OEM kit on eBay. Spicer u joints and the carrier bearing. Might as well do it all. Everything was going fine excpept when i was about to change the carrier bearing. You have to take off the "yoke" i think its called. Unscrewed the 22mm nut, took out the washer. But the yoke didnt want to come out. I was hammering it out from all directions and no luck. Finally put something thru the 2 holes where the u joint goes and a bolt against where the 22mm nut goes to push the yoke out. Thats when it cracked.

so my question is, does anyone know where i can buy that "yoke" that broke? i still have all the parts to rebuild the driveshaft, would be a waste to not use them.

side note, i ordered a tom woods driveshaft. if anyone is going to order one.

Maybe Rock auto, or the parts store. Maybe a junk yard drive shaft. Toyota doesn’t sell the driveshaft parts, only the entire shaft.

Salvage yard is probably your best bet. Otherwise you will have to get a new shaft.

Maybe you can get lucky and see if someone in the buy/sell forum has one they will sell you.
Like one of the guys that went to a 1 piece shaft?

I did that way back as an apprentice. You are not alone. But I did not have to pay for my error.

It's very expensive, you'll need to call around for a used one. Otherwise order a new shaft and just hand over the credit card.

Are you just wanting to keep this as a spare? You said you already ordered a new shaft or did I miss understand?

    Maybe try car-part.com
It’s a list of local salvage yards, then call one and see if they have what you need.

yes. to either have as a spare or i can sell it as a good unit. make some of my money back. tom woods driveshaft was like $740 after taxes.

ouch. is there a specific way to take it apart? just in case i need to do it again or help some one out. adding heat maybe?

thats actually a good idea. might swing by one day after work there and ask them.

that wasnt exactly what i was looking for, but found the right one. thank you so much.

another question instead of starting another thread. does anyone have suggestions how to remove that broken piece?

and the other reason i started this thread, was to let people know about the size of the driveshaft for 2015 tacoma 5 foot bed in case they wanted to order a driveshaft from tom woods.
their options for the bolt pattern were 60mmx60mm and 66mmx66mm. i used a tape measure the first time and got roughly 60mmx60mm. but next day i bought a precise measuring tool and it was actually 66mmx66mm on both ends.

im excited to try the tom woods 1 piece driveshaft. i did have vibrations a while ago that were fixed by a full tranny fluid exchange and adding lube guard. right now i did have some vibes when i would take off from a stop, but they were minimum. anyways....just excited to build this tacoma to be the perfect truck.

i can try that. i had a 3 jaw puller and it just wouldnt grab onto the yoke or what ever it is called. i would position it, and once i start adjusting the bolt, it would just pop off. there is maybe 5mm of material for the jaws to bite into.

Some times I use a big hose clap or ratchet strap around the jaws to keep the jaws closed and on tight.
I think a 2 jaw would work better in your situation. But try to strap the jaws and see if that helps.

You need a press to remove the yoke. Comes off pretty easy, no damage to the yoke.

You're in a unique situation where you don't care about damaging the yoke you are pulling off. Makes this a lot easier.

I would take an angle grinder and grind two nice flat spots in the shoulder of the old yoke for the two jaw to grab onto. Like TnShooter said you can also use a hose clamp to help keep in place, but that's sketchy haha.

Using a piece of wood and dead blow hammer and working around the yoke should also help.

As a side note, once you get the old one off don't lose the shim like washer thing. It'll probably be stuck to the old part with grease and you'll miss it until the new one is assembled and on the truck. Ask me how I know.. :bananadead:
