I wonder if the noise is truely gone or the noise is just so far behind the cab now that it can't be heard anymore?

Then again maybe it doesn't matter, as long as it's not heard.

I haven't heard of anybody yet, where flipping the drive shaft didn't help. Gonna have to try mine when the weather gets a little warmer and I get time.

    ...too much shit to list.
Actually the sound would be CLOSER to the driver in this case. The noise is coming from the spline.

Hmm ok. I haven't even looked at it yet.

I thought the same thing. Probably not a good idea to flip it if you do any crawling because the slip shaft is exposed. Not sure if being in a different location will make much of a difference with water. It's sealed pretty well.

It was the freakin grinding noise that was driving me mad. I weighed the options and decided to risk slip yoke failure over mental failure.
I'll let you know 100,000 miles from now how it worked out for me.

I may have posted too soon about the success of this procedure. Flipping the driveshaft got rid of the grinding noise, but introduced all kinds of very uncomfortable vibrations during acceleration. I ended up flipping it back last night because I'd rather hear grinding and have a smooth ride, than have the entire truck vibrate during acceleration through all the gears.

I checked my universals, there's absolutely no play in them. When I greased them for the first time @ 18,000 miles, it only took 2 pumps before the old grease started coming out of the caps.

I may just start saving up for an aftermarket 2-cardon shaft, but I'll just put up with the noise for now.

The pinion angle is parallel to the transfer case tail shaft angle as it should be for a single cardan driveshaft.

What you propose would require changing the driveshaft from single-cardant to double-cardan. Some folks DO do this (e.g. Tom Woods driveshaft replacement) but it's to correct serious post-lift vibration issues, and overkill for a case of "60mph let off the gas noise."
