Hey guys, replaced my carrier bearing last weekend and middle U-joint on my 2006 4x4 access cab. Forgot to mark the driveshaft when taking the middle u joint apart. Still have some vibration but not as bad. There's a 50%chance I put the driveshaft back together 180 degrees out of phase. So here's where I need help. The front and rear u-joints are original with the grease nipple in the end caps. When the truck comes from the factory are the grease nipples all in a straight line on the rear driveshaft?

Yes all in line. But if you take it to a driveshaft place they will separate balance and make adjustments if needed.if not it is 180 out.

When you said you put it back together "180 degrees out of phase" what exactly does that mean? Can you explain that a bit? Also, what was your final fix?

This was posted in another thread and I thought it answered the question pretty good

Interesting. So if you DID end up getting it out of phase, how would you be able to determine that's the problem and how would you fix it?

Process of elimination . ..if I had messed with the drive shaft and then had a vibration, that is where I would start...if he had not messed with the drive shafts the problem would not be there....

As far as figuring out it was out of phase...common to put back together wrong if you àr not watching

I guess that was the real question....if it WAS put back together improperly, how do you go about figuring out the PROPER way to put it back?

I would start by making sure all the joints were all oriented the same way and go from there...

Yeah the 2 piece drive shaft is balanced together from the factory, I took them apart at the middle u joint and reinstalled the rear 180 degrees from where it should have been which made it be out of balance. I figured it out because all the grease nipples on a 4x4 should all point the same way.

Hey, super old thread but taking a shot here, lol.
I did the same thing recently; replaced my Carrier Bearing and U joint but now drive shift vibrates especially when braking. I have had a seized U joint before which caused brake shudder but my U joints seem good.
What were your vibs like? Noticeable at higher speeds? Did you end up with any sort of vibs when braking? I can feel a pop/wobble when driving slowly dragging the brakes (stop & go traffic). Makes me think it's a phase problem. The yokes were lined up as good as I could get them with the spline. Maybe I just need to rotate the yoke 180. I am going to try tonight.
