My '04, 3.4 double cab 4x4 has a drive line vibration. I looked below and 2 of the 4 bolts holding the driveshaft together between the carrier bearing and the double cardan are missing. One of the remaining is missing the nut. It's a replacement shaft, about 2 years old with about 45k on it. I still have the old drive shaft and was going to use the bolts off of it. Is it likely that I just bolt the drive shaft together and go on my way or will it need to be removed and rebalanced no matter what? Should I use lock tight on the bolts? A shop did the replacement. The splines on the rear's sliding section is/was very worn on the original shaft at about 270-275k.

Center carrier bearing seems fine. This is a relatively quick catch type deal and not something that was ignored.

    thanks in advance.

2 of the four missing, and one without a nut. So one bolt is holding things together?

Get some new hardware in there ASAP.

It probably will not need to be balanced. If the new shaft is aftermarket, the OEM bolts are unlikely to fit. Pull that last bolt and goto to your local hardware store. HD will sometimes have some grade 8 hardware, but usually for metric stuff I order (even small qty) from McMaster Carr. Your info says SD, McMaster Carr usually delivers in the same day here. Yes Loc tite, or at the very least lock washers.

Yep, one bolt and nut. Thanks. It's parked. I have recently acquired Tundra as my daily. I'd loaned the truck to my brother. He's got a piece of property that requires 4wd low with the locker to get out of (Going in you can bounce & slide down the road) It's a V shaped, rutted out road with basketball + sized boulders, mud and snow. I had the truck in 1st low, we bashed a running board and flexed the truck quite a bit. We'd come back the weekend before last without noticing anything, but he went again last weekend and told me that the vibration started on the way home. New Grade 8 hardware it is then. Two sets so I'll have spares in the future. Until we get the road fixed, I'll start putting a CV axle in the bed as well.
