I'm sorry I know there are threads about this already but I just need questions answered directly. I have a some "chirping" coming from under the truck I notice under 30 mph on or off the gas or on the brakes or not. There is also a good amount of vibration at higher speeds and its hard to say exactly because its not always the same but id say anywhere from 50-65 it can start. I jacked the rear axle up and put it in neutral and checked all the ujoints for play and could get any. The carrier bearing has some play about 1/2" but from what I understand thats normal. Am I missing anything? Thanks for the help

no that is not normal, it should have no more then 1/4" play at best or its bad.

not saying that's your noise problem but with that much play I would think its causing the vibration issues for sure. the chirping might just be it rubbing on something as it wobbles.

take a good look around the u-joint seals for signs of damage or rust indicating bearings got dried out and are rusting

I'd have to say your carrier is bad. Mine is too, on jack stands and in gear I can watch my driveshaft moving up and down with every rotation. The rubber is so worn out in the carrier that it just squishes up and down constantly. Mine also chirps. Not that bad of a fix but I've been putting it off for months.

Bad carrier. You can grease all the joints on your driveshaft. It will get rid of most of the noise. But you really should swap the carrier
