Yeah we have had a LC in the stable since the 60 series (1984)

This is our second 200 series. First one was a 08 which we put 177k miles on

    We love our 17

I just did 3000 in a week a couple weeks back. Basically 500 miles a day for a week straight. It honestly wasn’t bad at all.

Bravo. That’s what real men do

Ridgeline owners go home and polish their truck daily, worrying about their investment, so not to put mileage on their “trucks”

I love everything about all the LC ever made. I'd take pretty any one ever made. Ever since I saw one as a kid with that TOYOTA badging on the grill I've wanted one. Just not practical for me, maybe some day. Best I can do is to pay homage to it. I've had a 99 taco, 08 taco, and now a 15 tundra. On the tacos i made grills and used genuine LC TOYOTA emblem, went the easy route with the tundra and got s PRO grill
Here's my old taco and new tundra wide by side. A guy in town bought it from the dealer I traded it at. Don't have any pics of the 99

Thanks man. I wanted silver because the taco was so easy to keep looking good. But I'm in love with the blue now, even like detailing it and keeping it look good. I like it so much I'm thinking I'm going to color match the PRO grill insert.

I used to drive a Lexus IS250 but every time I came home I saw my Tacoma sitting in the garage sad it was always staying home. I sold my 2005 and traded in the IS on my 2016 and haven’t looked back. After putting 50k on the 2016 I traded on my 2017 with the unicorn 6MT. I spend a lot of time driving and its definitely much more better having something you enjoy getting in every day. I’d much rather have a vehicle with 400k miles and stories to tell than one that’s sat in the garage for 10 years with 5k miles on it being neglected.

i think I understand your issue, but at 600 miles per week let's say, x 52 weeks is 31,200 miles a year. A Taco gets , let's say 20 mpg with gas costing, in 45202 area, about $2.20 gallon or $3,432.00/year not counting maintenance, etc.. if you got 40 mpg it would be at $1,716.00 /year It's hard to justify second car for $1,716.00 year in increased insurance ($600.00), maintenance ($500.00) and misc operating costs, tires, fluids, brakes, filters, etc. you include tags and some places taxes @ $150.00 year, for a minimum total cost of $1,250 per year .

This is if you don't count the initial cost of the auto. Let's say Grandma gives you her old Prius or Corolla with 8,500 miles on Odometer. She's a very nice grandmother.

I have a 4th car for use by my Mother in law in the summer time when she comes up from Florida. The hassle that goes with additional car is almost not worth the $500.00 savings which is really closer to $0.00 or costs me money. The one good thing is you always have another car to drive when one is in the shop or friends visit from out of town ;) I guess I should get her to sign up for Uber or Lyft and earn some extra cash to pay for expenses (which she gladly does when extra ordinary expenses come up).

As far as the Oil tycoons, haven't you heard, they are dying or choking on all this cheap oil prices.

Just kidding in all of this, but it did get me thinking...

Thanks for being a teacher, noble profession.

I don’t understand why people would spend $30-40k on a new vehicle then buy a beater to drive to save on fuel. What sense does it make to have a new vehicle sitting in the garage gathering dust? Buying and maintaining a second vehicle is going to cost more than the little bit of fuel you are saving...

You are one of my favorite posters on this forum and I love ya

But, America is the land of wastefulness and I am proud of it. I waste a ton and I know it.

My house is 3x the size I need. My house has 72degree thermostat year round, whether I am in it or not. My poolman and gardener make more money than African villages. These are jobs I can do, but choose to pay others to do it. I service my lexus LX at the dealer for ridiculous $80 oil change so I can have the coffee and popcorn

My dream cars are 6x6 G wagen or 4x4 squared and aventador with plates that say “I ❤️ OPEC”

In Europe people tow With Honda Accord and prius. Thanks to lawyers (ahem) we can’t do that in Usa. We get a 8 seater for a 3 person family. We buy a f250 to tow a jet ski . 97% all trucks on road I see are single occupant , empty bed.

I have owned two hybrid vehicles (lexus LS600hL and a CT200h). My CT was garbage . Was it saving the planet ? Probably. But America is about ME. Did it make me happy ? NO. Rest of the world would love a new lexus. But because I am selfish and an American I traded that piece of junk cuz I didn’t want it

    Am I wasteful? Yes
Can I get by with 2 cars instead of 7? Yes
Can I live in smaller house? Yes

I am proud to be an American
I am proud to be wasteful
I am proud to spend however I choose to

Otherwise I would move somewhere else

    I am honest.

Ya I see the numbers. But if your driving that much, there are better choices than the taco. Don't get me wrong I enjoy driving mine, but I also have a 20 mile a day round trip commute. The buy a 2nd vehicle perspective really doesn't make sense from a few perspectives as well.

First off, just want to extend my sincere thanks for all the replies. I figured that maybe 5-7 would roll in for a guy new to the forum. I appreciate the pros and cons that you all suggested. Most importantly, your passion for the Tacoma makes me want to join the club. A few things stood out to me based on the responses:

    - Some of you have longer commutes than I do, glad to read that you love your trucks (regardless of the gen)
    - Understood on the gas mileage issue and cost. I have a car that requires premium fuel now, so the difference between mileage/fuel cost per gallon isn't as bad as I thought (after doing the math)
    - Glad to hear that the 3rd gen Tacoma has passing power on the highway. Although the mileage will suffer, I'll need to slay the myriad of inattentive left lane sitters
    - I have some unique transportation requirements during the year that the truck will really help with, although the situations are few and far between that I can't totally justify the increased cost of ownership and mpg penalty

    Thanks again for your help.

That's funny, but with that turbo capable of 180+ you'd get written up for child endangerment instead of excessive speed.

My grandkids don't think much of my Taco other than color, vs. my 911. Most of that is because their Dad has a Raptor, hard to impress.

Your right on here, my 3rd and 4th car both take premium, matter of fact so does my 2nd a 11 ML350, even though I alternate mid grade every other time and add Techron once a month. Freaking premium prices kill me everytime I hit the button on the pump. Though I wonder how my 3.6 liter flat 6 gets 26MPG on the hiway on cruise control and the 4.2 liter v8 MB get 22mpg, guess 2.92 gear/OD helps.
