That thing is freaking crazy both on and esp off road. I think the other day he wanted to literally jump over his neighbors POS Chevy Cruze when it pulled out in front of him.

I live in the land of gt3RS and vanquish everyday. But my neck goes on a swivel when I see a Raptor

It’s the only vehicle (aside from Escalade), that is accepted in the hoity toity areas and not get a dirty look for being an American vehicle

Kids love them. Women love them. Men love them . Ford has really done an amazing job marketing wise with it

Aside from a 1995 Ford Lightning(emotional attachment) , you couldn’t give me a Ford for free.

    And I crave a Raptor.

That hurts , we're still less than 2.79 for summer blend 92, but that will change soon to winter blend

    I drive my wife's Mazda 3 on long commutes/road trips where a 4x4 isn't necessary.

Other than that it's my Tacoma all day long.

Have already put 20k in less than 1 year on the Tacoma. A little bummed, but then again, it's taken me to amazing places I couldn't have gone otherwise.

My wife's 2012 Mazda 3 skyactiv has 135k miles, going strong, and reliably gets 40mpg+

In essence do what makes you happy. I try to keep wasted miles off my truck, but in a perfect world, id drive my truck for everything, lol.

That's funny, I just saw one of those (Lightning) the other day in Red. My older brother recently was a Gen Mgr at a Ford Truck only Sales Center. Couldn't keep Raptors on the lot, matter of fact anything in the higher end price wise King Ranch, Platinum and is luxurious is gone in days. The cheaper ones sit for weeks, but usually still sell because he options them up with the stuff people want. Not much of a Ford guy myself, but here in mid America, Ford is the number one work truck by far. The Chev/GM sell to dedicated GM guys and boulevard cruisers. Rams and Tundra's have the left over pickens.

Should have bought the original lightning back in the day. Couldn’t get myself to pay for sub par American build quality

Raptor makes me throw all logic out the window

King ranch doesn’t do much for me

My dream truck (I will never buy), is blood red 4 door f450 dually , Long bed, turbo diesel. $91,000

If you need a truck for your work, I would by an F150. More room, better features, better gas mileage, and same price as a 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Or if you don't need a truck for work get a cheap economy car for daily driving and then get the Tacoma as a fun truck.

Putting that many miles on a gas guzzler gets old really quick.

32,000 miles per year, with 18mpg average, and average gas price of $2.40 is over $4,200 per year.

I love my Tacoma, but it is NOT a comfortable truck. I drive 65 miles per day and thats OK. 120 in my Taco seats... I wouldn't care for it.
I do road trips frequently and I always end up missing my full size.

Take the Tacoma for a long testdrive by yourself. The 3rd Gen engine SUCKS at high speeds. The 2nd Gen sucks but the 3rd is worse. Truck gear searches all the time.

Fortunately, that hasn't been my experience. Had to go run an errand, about 70 miles away. All freeway. I was about 75mph, average and it ran great. No gear searching, no issues at all--cruised along just fine. Got 22.8mpg for the 140 mile trip.

Its all subjective. The OP has to go test drive the truck to see what he likes.

The new engine highly annoys me.

What configuration do you have? Access cab?
I have a 2nd Gen but couldn't dream of 22.8 mpgs on my DCLB at 75mph. Wondering if the mpgs between the two are that different.

    I can get 22 if I don't drive over 60mph.

PackCon - Yes, DCSB OR, 4WD. I will say, that's what the OBC said. I have yet to verify how close that is to actual (manual method).

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. For 4.5yrs I commuted with our old MT car. Empty roads, it was a 40min drive. In typical commute traffic, it was 1.5hrs on a good day. It was better with the MT, never any fatigue. The few days that I had our sluchbox, it was a PITA.

My commute is much better now, but traffic near our house has gotten incredibly bad. The Taco with the low 1st gear is even better than the old car was. It is slower than walking pace at idle. I can creep along in 1st and just chill without bouncing better the gas and brake.

    That is just me though.
