My 2019 short bed has had its second total computer failure. now at 4900 miles. It's at the dealer after tow in. This one is another loaner. I wish I had bought the long bed .

At 1000 miles the truck stopped. Went into LIMP MODE and the entire computer had to be replaced. 5 days in the shop. Now at almost 5000 miles it's done the very same thing. Dealer says Toyota will send someone to decide what to do. Not the dealers fault for sure. They've tried to fix this truck. I went to check on the truck , the first time in the shop , and 6 guys were tearing it apart ! I didn't want to watch.

My opinion. I don't know much about electronics but I have worked on a bunch of cars over a long period of time. Back in the "good old days" LOL . this would sound like a GROUND problem. Cars have many ground points. BMW had problems and they ended up cleaning or repairing the actual ground connections. Just my guess. I'm sure a $6k analyzer is much smarter than me guessing. We'll see. stay tuned.:laser:

SOLD. I'll do that. I don't think I'd feel very comfortable driving very far from the dealer. I can tell you one thing for sure. Toyota is not happy. They drove the truck for a few hours before turning it over to me the first time.:frusty:

I live 6 miles from the dealer and I'm retired. As Arnold says " I'll be Bock "

Curious where this defective computer is located. Under the seat? Under the dashboard? Engine compartment?

The long beds are better balanced with Tacomas.

I had 12 years with my 06 SB. Bought a new long bed in December and it's nice to have that extra foot. I hauled motorcycles and all kinds of other stuff in the shortie but it is easier now. I definitely notice the bigger turning radius but I've gotten used to it.

I've never driven a short bed before. I hear that the long bed is noticeably a smoother ride.

The long bed is WTG, or at least it was before the truck cabs got longer and bigger as ppl used their truck as cars. It’s a better ride and bare minimum if you need a truck to haul anything other than A$$.

Sorry to hear about the computer issues.

    Food for thought:
From what I’ve learned, at least on other vehicle makes, any high voltage spike can fry them. I’m talking maybe 16.5V+.
A faulty alternator, charger or even jump starting another vehicle with your engine running can be deadly. A bad ground can re-set the puter but it should reset once a good ground is restored.

And six guys looking into this??

    Best of luck
    Cheers!

    Lots, straight from the factory.
Nothing worse than a faulty ECU. Sucks. Hope they get you one soon, or Toyota offers to swap out the truck.
