Saw this while making a DoorDash run in Warrington; More photographic proof that heat pumps don’t fare well in this kind of weather!

Look how big this house is, and note that it only has one air-conditioner!

I have absolutely no complaints about the money I made today, nor was any single job bad; I do not think I went further than ten miles from my house...

My first job of the day was four small grocery orders from the Walmart in Warminster, each going to one person. The first two dropoffs were fine and involved me leaving the items on the porch, ringing the doorbell, and leaving (contactless dropoff)...

The third job was to a house in Warrington, which is where I was headed when I photographed that frozen heat pump.

I backed into the driveway of the customer’s house and was sitting there with the truck’s door open and one leg out, initiating the arrival procedure on my phone. The customer’s husband, who was totally unaware that his wife had ordered a single box of Scrubbing Bubbles (I think that’s what it was; Some sort of cleaner, anyway), only saw an unfamiliar pickup truck backing into his driveway and went outside to investigate...

He walked up to the truck without me even knowing, and when I turned around to get out of the truck, he startled me.

It was pretty much a non-incident because once I mentioned DoorDash and Walmart, he realized his wife must have placed the order; He took the bag, and after I chatted with him for a bit, I went inside.

REASONABLE REQUEST TO ALL DOORDASH CUSTOMERS: If you order something, please notify anybody living with you who might be there (roommate, spouse, etc) that you’re expecting a DoorDash order so they don’t think I’m up to no good! :)

The fourth Walmart dropoff in that cluster of four jobs is why I will likely NEVER pick up from Wally World for DoorDash EVER again!

The house was an older, smaller 1-story with a huge semi-attached garage built to accommodate a larger (possibly commercial) vehicle; The house was very well-kept, but there were no vehicles in the driveway and it was off the beaten path...

I backed the truck into the driveway, then double-checked the address to make it was the right house, which it was; I didn’t even make it to the front door before this guy in his 50s, wearing a shop coveralls and a mechanic’s jacket with a nametag, came outside and said to me “Who are you and what are you doing?” I could tell by the tone in his voice and his body language that he though I was there to steal something.

I immediately told him I was DoorDash and his demeanor softened, but he told me he’d never heard of DoorDash... o_O

About the time he came outside, I’d discovered that one of the bags was missing, and it wouldn’t let me complete the dropoff until the bag was scanned or marked as missing.

He recognized the items in the plastic bag as something he had ordered the previous day, and he was in fact expecting a delivery; He did not seem to be upset about part of his order being missing, and seemed to think that it had ended up with another delivery person. He took the bag, thanked me and went back inside...

My theory as to what happened is this; He did in fact order groceries from Walmart to avoid both the bad weather and the ongoing COVID pandemic, but expected that a Walmart employee would be dropping it off. He did look like one of those individuals who still used a flip phone and would have no idea how to work an app like DoorDash...

Quite why Walmart decided to subcontract out to DoorDash and have Dashers deliver items to customers’ houses WITHOUT notifying the customers of this fact is beyond me, but it’s one of a few reasons why I will NEVER pick up Walmart orders again!

This guy thought I was a porch pirate, for sure, but luckily he ended up being nice; What if I encounter some Rambo wannabe and end up staring down the barrel of a shotgun (or any firearm for that matter)?!?!

I don’t think I have to go into detail about dangerous it is for some off-their-rocker homeowner to be expecting an official-looking delivery person in a uniform to deliver their groceries in a well-marked company delivery vehicle, and a casually-dressed dude in an old pickup truck shows up...

    NO MORE WALLY WORLD!

With the food orders where people actually order through the DoorDash app and are expecting an ordinary person to show up, that’s totally fine. My profile not only says that I’m driving a Toyota Tacoma, but goes as far as to mention that it’s a regular cab! I’m also 99% it lists the license plate number, though I’m gonna have to make sure that updated since I got the RR plate; I have not done DoorDash since probably March 2020 at the latest, so it might still list my old license plate number.

So you’re not driving a FedEx truck or van, or wearing any kind of uniform?

I got like four $10+ Walmart orders within a minute and declined them
all because I didn’t want to deal with any more misunderstandings or cases of mistaken identity; A short time later, I got a Walgreen’s order, but it was like the CVS order that I declined the other day...

I gave Walmart a try because the items were already picked out and bagged for me, and I did not have to wait in line to purchase the items myself with that damned Red Card (provided by DoorDash, but still time consuming to use for a gig that’s all about speed). With the CVS and Walgreen’s pickups, I would have to go into a pharmacy in the midst of a global pandemic, then waste ten minutes or more shopping for all the items on the list, and possibly wait another ten minutes waiting in line to purchase said items...

    NO! :brianr:

Luckily, it was all highly lucrative restaurant pickups for the rest of day, ranging from eight bucks to twelve bucks each!

And the brings us to the Primo Hoagies pickup in Doylestown that went to this huge house out by Peddler’s Village; First, some shots from Doylestown (the snow was starting to stick at this point)...

The aforementioned house that this order went to was reminiscent of Tony Soprano’s place...

And look what was in the driveway; Both the owner of the house and myself were amazed that my truck made it up his driveway in the snow!
