Kind of a weird question, as I'm just getting into this crazy world.

Last night, I let my brother drive my 2014 Tacoma home for the first time while I was helping my parents. It has an automatic transmission.

Unbeknownst to me, he wasn't sure about the shifter, and put it into gear 3 rather than 4 or Drive, and drive around at highway speeds (60-70mph) for half an hour.

Is this something that would put too much pressure on the engine, and something I need to take immediate action for?
Or is this something where I need to just not let my brother drive my truck again and not worry about that event?

Again, I apologize for being naive, but I just got this truck and would be distraught if something went wrong already.

Edit: 6cyl Access Cab, no mods currently.

Just don’t let him drive again, I’ve never done 60 in third gear but as long as it wasn’t hitting limiter the whole time she should be just fine

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, if you stay on top of keeping your fluids topped off. Check your oil and coolant, if oil is dirty or your close to being due, go ahead and change it. If you do a lot of short trip drives, it might now run better.

If he buried the needle past red line, smack him in the back of the head and call him a dumbass.

When you post a question, it’s always helpful to say what you have. 6cyl, 4cyl, double or access cab. Also known modifications.

Thank you for the tip. Edited my main post with the information you recommended.

I feel bad for ragging on him, but I don't want something to happen prematurely. I can do the basics like my own fluids and oil changes, but not quite sure on the inner workings and how the gears come into play. Always a learning process.

Could y'all double check this to make all the info is correct? From my knowledge it should be right but I just want to make sure.

I punched it into a calculator and it looks like 3rd maxes out 93 mph. So you should be fine as long as he did the speeds you said.

Well sounds like he gave you an Italian tune up. Let us know if it runs any better!

From the looks of it and from my head I think Fosters right and it won't have redlined your truck. If you maintain everything properly, should be no harm. If something does show up, money says it was already a problem. But you're probably just fine, keep doing your maintenance as usual.
