I know that. 2- L are different gear.
Some guys were thinking OP was saying his truck went to "Low range" because he said "it was lower than 4Hi."

I know what engine braking is, I do it quite often when pulling a trailer.
Especially when the trailer has no brakes.

It was a B16A2. It wouldn't cut fuel until 8,250 RPM on the stock engine.
Upgraded to Type-R cams and springs later. But they weren't in there when I missed the shift.

Yeah but doesn’t that have a redline right around 8,200? Honda built a lot of headroom into those bullet proof little 4bangers of that vintage. Seriously, that engine would have done 9,000rpm all day long lol

    Yeah, around 8,200ish
cams and springs put it at about 8,800.

But I didn't have the car too long after the cams/springs.
Traded it in on a 99' Ford Lightening.

I went from N/A to S/C with 4 more cylinders.

And Yes, I had a D16 civic walk all over me in the Ford.
He was dumping massive amounts of nitrous through his engine.

You are spot on however, you are answering a question that wasn't asked. No biggie. Just a misunderstanding. One love. Duder was in 4Hi and L on the shifter and was concerned about running it in L + 4 Hi. Thus my silly anecdote about your answer. No offense intended.
