Yesterday 2/24/2023, I was driving on Saddle road , a road between two mountains. You can see snow on the both mountain tops as you drive though. ( Hawaii’s Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa mountains)
Hilo side it was raining hard and the fog was thick.
I turn on my headlights ,10:00 am , sun is up above the fog, bright yet hard to see though the fog. I look at my center screen , it look wipe out. (As you turn ON the headlights it automatically dims all the dash lights and center screen.

I was surprised how dark it look, at first ..I thought it black out, then as I look at it more carefully I could barely see my radio screen. As I turn my headlights OFF, the screen look normal for daytime driving brightness. Also had my wipers going on high speed ,back to normal speed, then back to high speed , for a couple of miles. The last 10 miles it was FOGGY!

just be aware of this when driving in the daytime in the rain and FOG.
I might need to get yellow fog lights (more for nighttime).

Amber light based on the wavelength cuts through fog and heavy rain much better than white and with snow doesn't reflect the same so won't blind you.
I plan on getting an amber light bar behind the grill for exactly those situations.

You can enable “day mode” on the display which will stop your screen from dimming when your headlights are on

The center screen and I have an ongoing disagreement, I feel Toyota could have done just a bit better.
It is too bright for night driving and too dark for daylight bad weather with the headlights on.

You can adjust it with the tiny knob by the odometer but I really don't want to be fooling with that all the time so I just leave it and grumble.

Thank you …I do not want to touch any knobs when driving . Especially in the rain and fog.

I was just surprised how dark the screen got. When I turn on the headlights during the day in the rain and fog.

Hilo town is the rainiest city in America , approx 112 inches of rain per year. Hilo is the eastern side of the island. Kona -Hawaii is on the western side averaging 2” per month.

Go to options and select the box to keep it in day mode.

Thank you. For option for day mode . I will do this when I visit Hilo side of the island. Which is only a couple of times a year.
