In northern Michigan 2hi with traction control off works fine. If its heavy wet snow 4hi cruises right thru it.

Probably the best suggestion for gaining traction and control

Oh, God, just bring back the days when all you did was throw a lever and go. By the time I figured out how long to push what button and did I have to be in 4Hi or 4LO when I pushed it, the damn snow would be melted, or I'd be frozen solid in the ice. The FJ40 in my avatar was unstoppable in snow until it got deep enough to pack under the frame. All you did was lock the front hubs before you started, and then choose 4Hi or 4Lo with the transfer case lever. DONE.

Blizzaks are winter tires. KO2's are all terrains. Even the best all terrains will never perform like a true winter tire.

Agreed, 300lb sand or salt bags right over the rear axle does wonders, keeps me from having to switch into 4hi often when theres a inch or 2 of snow on the ground.

While that's true, a real winter tire wins on icy conditions. A good A/T with big lugs will get you through deeper snow levels.

Personally I have never gotten stuck in deep snow, but thankfully I don't do much Highway driving as I do not have winter tires.

My Duratrac A/Ts have been my best tire so far. My Wildpeaks have been pretty good, but not as knobby!

    Good point!

Knobby tires are great in deep snow.

My MT's are fantastic on fresh snow, but garbage on packed snow and ice. My Toyo AT3's are a pretty good compromise.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.

This might have been covered. My apologies if it has. There are actually 2 traction control settings. Simple pressing it won't get him where he needs to be. He needs to hold it down for 3 seconds. He will see the lights switch to the second mode.

Here we go again. Driving on snow and ice is best with good winter tires. Period !

    I hear ya!!
I love my 67 Chevy K20. Turn the Hubs in, engage lever.
Everytime I use the Tacoma, I think, what and when will something not work because of so many gadget controls.

As much as I dislike the electric 4wd it has it's marits I don't have to get out and lock in the hubs with the wind and snow blowing in my face at 20 mph then get out to unlock them when the steering wheel is yanked out of my hand on the plowed parking lot.

The one time I ever got really stuck in snow. "Really stuck" meaning I had to have someone drag me out of it. I admit my tires were not really up to the task, but I'd made it far enough into a drift across the road that I was on the frame and the tires were simply spinning holes in the snow. However, I made it as far as anyone that day, there were over half a dozen Jeeps and pickup trucks trying to bust through a 4-foot deep drift across the road leading up to Roan Mtn, TN. This was 1977, a banner winter in this area. It took a 3/4 ton 4WD Chevy with about 30 feet of chain and a tow strap to get me out. Wish I had more pictures, it was a fun day.

7200 rpm is pretty wimpy. You really need to bury the needle and get that thing over 8000. Then be sure to put that video in the ad when you get ready to sell it to save somebody the trouble lol
