Haha, this reminded me of when I was in Korea. One of the Soldiers in our unit decided to spend some quality time with a juicy girl downtown one night. He was drunk as hell and wanted some action, so why not, right? Well, she set him up and had 5 Korean dudes hiding in the other room when they started to get down! They stormed in the room, all 5 raped him, and then they took all his money and jewelery! What a mess that was, and I am sure he will have issues for life!

My reaction exactly! You'd think if you had 5 horny gay guys in a room the solution would present itself without the need to bring in outside help.

(I think I just accelerated a bit on my trip to hell...)

You know what i fear the most out of this situation?

US is waiting for an excuse to make an intervention in Mexico.... might sound unbelievable, but its possible.... and I do not think that would help...

Highly unlikely given our current economic situation.. Obama's not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. He's all look and polish and has other dunces yanking the strings for him. Who knows.. In a few years your neck of the woods might look pretty darn good to us.

I'm from Las Cruces which is about 45 minutes from El Paso/Juarez border and I agree with the majority here DO NOT GO! Its not worth the risk. The violence there is crazy they were averaging around 100 murders a month the last three months of 2008. Even if they were all drug cartel related you don't want to get caught in the mix. However I do hear that outside of the border towns things are relatively safe. I know your not going to be going through Juarez I still wouldn't risk it especially with five chics.

Versus even one gun. Who do you think wins?

Those warnings are there for a reason and it isn't because it's safe. You have to remember, they do not have the same standards and quality of life that we have here. As you can see, gunshots are a normal thing (I know, they are in some cities even here, I get that). In my neighborhood, they are not. I'll put it this way: How many Americans do you see running across the border to get into Mexico for a better life?

Dangit... 20 of booked a cruise to Ensenada, MX for spring break. Just a short weekend, we supposed to debark from 9am to 6pm.

Is Ensenada cool, or should my happy ass stay on the boat??

mjp2, my grandparents are in Melakie(spelling?) which I think is near Puerto Vallarta. They have been traveling to Mexico for over 15 years now. My grandpa did say that getting across the border was more difficult this year then previous, more security. I think the biggest thing when traveling to any foreign country is to try and fit in, don't look like a tourist, unless your in a big tourist town. Dress as the local people do, eat what they eat, try to learn their customs and most definitely respect them.

I think a majority of you reiterated what I was already thinking. The ladies are a major concern, the XD would have to stay at home, and Mr. Teo (acid bath guy) or his friends are not on my list to meet. I love Mexico and especially the people. It's unfortunate that the US is responsible for a large percentage of the situations occurring.

I truly appreciate the responses, minus the korean gang rape thing. Best wishes to that guy. I'm definitely cutting the cord on this trip. Thanks again!

Now, where is that awesome MPG thread I saw a minute ago.

I went to BC about 3 weeks ago with no problems. The military presence is obvious, but wasn't threatening.

I went with a group of 25 with my church. We stopped just north of Ensenada to visit a church, stopped in ensenada to shop at Costco, ate at road side taco stands, then continued south to Vicente Guerrero. we were in VG for 2 days, and never saw anything remotely threatening. we shopped at local stores, ate at local restaurants. we also stopped in Camalu on the way back.

there are two permanent military checkpoints between the border and where we stayed. and on the way back we saw one temporary stop they set up.

depends on where you're going, what you're doing and who and how many you're going with.

I wouldn't go THAT far. I can turn it around and say if Mexicans weren't growing/making their garbage (drugs) in the first place, they wouldn't be here on my streets. You know, clean up your own backyard first before you go blaming others.

Just wait until it gets safer (if it ever happens). It's just not worth it right now.
