Could it be the flat spot on the bottom from sitting overnight? When you get to moving it works itself out......Just a guess.

No....it's not. The front driveshaft is not spinning.

The 4hi engagement within the transfer case has synchromesh to allow shifting into 4wd while moving.

I believe that is sort of my issue but it can go all summer fine then when the pressure drops and the tires stiffen up, cold weather effect on rubber I experience balance issues. Which btw they've subsided in the 4 runner completely.

    You are right!

    I did an experiment tonight.

I put a large zip-tie on the front driveshaft to see when it turns.

I drove down the road in 2wd and all was quite, no turning.

When I switched into 4wd the front driveshaft started turning and the zip-tie made a racket.

Then all was quite when I put it back into 2wd.

    Pretty cool stuff.

Yea. No Scooby is right. That front axle disconnect is nice. I dont know if my first gen taco had this disconnect. I know my bronco didn't have it but it was a 1967.:) My 67 bronco had vacuum windshield wipers BTW. :)
