So it appears that I need new shocks up front. I would like to replace mine with some 3rd gen OR takeoffs, so while I wait will I do any damage driving as is (bumpstops on LCA at rest on level ground)E9E64FBC-4FB1-42B6-90BB-BA4A64F434A5.jpg

It's one thing if the shock itself is "bad" and needs replacing...but that shock has straight up snapped off. You don't happen to have a spacer lift on that do you?

Do not drive that thing anywhere until you replace the front shocks

Wow, I feel like an idiot! I didn’t even look closely at the photo to realize my shock is broken. All the salt and grime up here had me distracted!

I am pretty sure it would actually be illegal to drive at that point. Also very dangerous.

I appreciate TW for seeing what I didn’t. I can limp the truck to my father-in-laws shop and fix everything there. I already had a leaking cv boot, probably worse now, so I may replace those as well.

Update: I might be the luckiest dude ever! The front shocks (both) broke in such a way that they were resting on the LCAs allowing me to drive to my in-laws garage no problem. Now to order new coil overs (looking for 3rd gen take offs) and a set of CVJ axles! Thanks TW for the quick responses!

Please take a pic of the upper shock..... im doubting the lack of spacers.

Also, did you not notice your truck sitting at least 2-3in lower in the front? Do you never inspect your truck?

EDIT - actually by the looks of it you are on bumpstop.... had to of been at least 4inches lower... good lord.

Take his word for no spacers. His truck, does not matter spacers or not. If he has them, he now knows that was a horrible choice and won't do it again. No need to rub salt in the wound.

I’m positive there aren’t any spacers, it’s bone stock. But when I get to working on it I’ll take a photo. I could always be wrong, but I feel like I would know if I put a spacer on there.

As far as inspecting my truck, yeah I do, I also drive with the radio off periodically to listen for inconsistencies. I noticed my truck sitting low and heard some squeaking and looked under my truck to see the LCAs sitting on the bump stops, leading me to seek advice on driving it...leading someone to point out what I didn’t see...my shock broken! No on to fixing it.
