DRL stopped working

Thank you to the guys who said the simple yet very very effective point that the DTRL don’t work with the E brake on I just spent 45 mins looking over fuses relays globes until consulting the bible (TW) and bam!!! Idiot e brake off and everything works completely fine hahahahhaa owned my rig for 2 years and this is the first I’ve ever heard of this.

Make sure you have your hu set up like this. Do not remember how to get to this screen but drl will work if these are chosen.

 

I was hoping that would do the trick, but unfortunately, my issue persists. Checked my fuses but still no luck.

 

OH! Sorry to hear/read that… I am sorry man, Fuses/relays/head unit. That is how deep I went to troubleshoot the issue and luckily I fixed it with the settings on the HU.

It had something to do with the head unit. After spending a lot of time trying to find which settings caused it, I did a full factory reset of it and now my DRLs are working again!

 

i have same issue but it is intermittent, DRL some days work others dont

 

Just realized, after a year of having this one, that a drl hiccup has been in play. In my search for solutions, I came across this post. But, no mention of the same issue throughout this thread.

2022 TRD-OR-4x4 model, w/o fancy led headlights (for clarity sake). And, I put one of those Anytime Front/Rear kits in. The local dealer actually stocks/sells them.

Top-most switch position: This is “headlights on” position. Like most vehicles throughout relatively modern times (before drl existence), you would use this position at night time. In this position you are to get all the lights except drl. BUT, for me, the drl come in with all the rest at this setting.

Next position down is the “parking/marker lights” position: With this setting, you are to get all the lights except headlights. This actually works as it should for me.

Next position down is the “auto” setting: Here, you are to get drl in the daytime, and all the other lights at night time except the drl (just like the very top position). But, for me, in the daytime I get nothing, and at night time I get all the lights plus the drl.

Bottom-most position “DRL OFF”: This just turns all the lights off. This position also works as it should for me.

So, in summary, I get no DRL in auto setting daytime. And, when lights are called for at night (manual or auto), the drl come on with the rest if the lights. I checked the setting in the “customize” menu of the infotainment/headunit. The “DRL” option is on. Even when I turn it off, and test the settings, I get rhe same functions as explained above. No DRL in daytime, and DRL just follow the headlights in those settings. Really weird. The only reason I explained this in such excruciating detail, is because I javent been able to find a post similar to this particular issue. And, yes, I even went to the dealer to see if I was just missing a switch or a setting somewhere. They were also baffled. As they have not encountered this one until now. Im awaiting a call from them with any progress on their research. My suspicion, as well as one of their tech’s suspicion, is it is an ecu thing. Perhaps just needs update/flash.

 

Have you verified the DRL fuse?
Since the LED DRL's have a Bright or Dim setting, it can confuse the viewer.

 

I havent. i will check that.

Im certain I was getting nothing i. The daytime/auto setting. And, tgey are illuminating along with the headlights, which is not supposed to be.

going to inspect fuse(s).

 

Again, the DRL's would be DIM at low beams via parking circuit.

 

Ok. The 10A DRL fuse, is in tact (not blown). I havent looked for “bright vs dim”. Just observing on or off in conjunction how it should function with selected settings of the switch. To understand your statement: When the parking lights selection is in play, the DRL is dimmer (less bright) than when the DRL is called up in “auto” mode?

 

Did you test it, or just 'looked' at it?

 

I just looked at it. I will test it (continuity) to be sure. ………….. ok, it checks good for continuity.

 

Now check the DRL relay base terminals. First for fused power at pin 1, then pin 3.

 

Thanks for the instruction on diagnosing this. Right now it is raining, and dark where I am. So, Im going to have at this next step tomorrow morning.

 

Hi team, I had sudden loss of DRL function on my 20’ trd pro. After going thru all the troubleshooting steps, the factory reset on the OEM head unit finally fixed it for me. (Hold apps button while turning headlights on/off 3 times, then perform personal data init reset). Just wanted to say thanks to @SDMikeTaco for figuring that out & sharing it, saved me a ton of headache, thank you!
