    Hello All,

I just recently acquired a 2006 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Double Cab Short Bed. I have gone under the assumption that my vehicle was not optioned with factory DRL functionality as when I meet the conditions for the DRLs to come on, the turn signal bulbs do not light up. As a result, I purchased these switchback LED turn signal bulbs because they specify in the description:
Since, my turn signal bulbs did not also function as DRLs, I figured these would work. However, when I installed them, only the turn signal and hazard functions worked. I contacted Diode Dynamic support today and the person I spoke with gave me conflicting information. He said that since I only have two wires leading to my connector, I likely don't have factory DRLs, which is specified on the webpage I linked earlier. However, he then said that the bulb will only work if there are 3 wires going to the connector. I'm starting to assume that the website listing is incorrect.

At this point, I wanted to double-check and make sure that my vehicle didn't have factory DRL functionality, so I checked the repair manual and electrical wiring diagram. I assumed that since there were only two wires going to my turn signal bulb connector, I didn't have DRLs. However, according to the EWD, it looks like the same two wires that control the turn signal and hazard operation also operate the DRLs, just with an additional input from the DRL-capable flasher relay. (SEE DOCUMENTS BELOW). Furthermore, I also noticed that the turn signal bulbs installed before hand were dual-filament bulbs.

Could anyone who still has a working, factory DRL take a picture of what their connector and bulb look like? I have searched the forums for a definitive answer for how to determine for certain if you have factory DRLs with no luck.

    -Thomas

    EDIT: Updated wiring diagram reference.

UPDATE: Diode Dynamics incorrectly listed the product as compatible with our Tacomas in the way Diode Dynamics intended. I returned the LED's and the relay before replacing the relay with the common OEM Toyota DRL relay upgrade posted elsewhere on this forum.
