So while we impatiently wait on shipping, what hitch pin is everyone getting? Where are they available? Surely tractor supply has a plain black. I might even have one laying around but won’t be able to lock it

I was kind of thinking one of these could work for this specific light and look a little more stealthy, though they would obviously be useless for actual towing/recovery.

    https://www.brycefastener.com/

    or

    https://www.urbanbiketech.com/

    And more info on pitlock:
    https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/pitlock.php

NOTE: The above likely would need a fender washer which is larger than the hitch receiver pin hole to properly secure the light, but one upside is you could likely get away with drilling a smaller hole through the insert itself making for some fore/aft adjustment.

Also worth mentioning I have no hands-on experience with pitlock but if I had to lock a bike outside in an urban location I'd likely own a set. I suspect they would be more secure than most hitch lock pins and look a lot cleaner too but of course they are useless for towing and recovery.

Correct. You could maybe get him to swap from just the HitchPod to the combo as well.

Okay. Just saying you could save some money on both by buying a combo, or I could sell you just a single S1 as well. Shoot me a PM and let me know what you’d like to do!

+1 on the harness. On a good day I cringe to tap factory wiring on my new truck, but after following this poor guys recent odyssey, I’d really prefer a standalone reversible harness: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/its-a-bizarre-case-they-said.703791/

@memario1214 depending on lead time for your harnesses, curious if anybody has part numbers or a lead on the oem connectors for those that want to assemble their own harnesses?

appreciate all the brilliant minds making these contributions to the community, can’t wait to get this installed.

Lead times on getting these mass produced is unknown. That said, the production of these could be whipped up in short time. They just cost more to do so (time and materials in lower volumes). I’ll see if I can’t get another 20 or so produced here just to wet the whistle of those who were early adopters!

    Third gen female reverse connector
    Third gen male reverse connector

You will also need 14 gauge pins and seals to double up on 18 gauge wire to get a solid tap or you can pin M and F with individual 18 gauge leads and then solder / heat shrink them together for your tap to a longer 18 gauge to the BD.

Dang it I missed it haha.

Yes, please make more PNP wiring harnesses. I want to buy this too but I also don't want to mess with factory wiring. When you have more harnesses ready I'll be buying that and a full combo.

    Thank you!

Yeah, after reading about 100 reviews of hitch pin locks where somebody always ended up running into rust/seizing mechanism, and going out to the garage and looking at the three I've tried here in Seattle that all rusted (no salt!), I think that's not the way to go for something you are going to put in and leave in. It will rust.

So I'm headed down the same route as our buddy Dave here - get a tamper-proof binding barrel and screw. Make it high-quality stainless steel and match up with a pair of fender washers. Done, with the added benefit of being lower profile.

You know, looking it over again, for anyone with the OEM hitch, the rear of the receiver is totally open. And it looks like there is a lip on the hitchpod in each of the 4 corners. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to put together a solution which secures from the back using stainless security hardware and some metal plates with holes for the security bolt and the wire connector. One plate on the inside of the hitchpod, one on the outside of the receiver, gently tighten security bolt until it is snug, connect wire. That would eliminate the need to drill out the hitch pin at all and leave nothing visible from the front or sides to entice theft. That route seems the stealthiest of all though it won't deter anyone with a crowbar.

I like where you are headed there. Hadn't noticed that. It's a curved opening though so would take some precision.

Yeah I’m actually kinda excited to mess around with pin lock ideas haha.

I’ll go ahead and be that guy since somebody has to be the ginny pig, @memario1214 when do you think you’ll ship the combos to the lucky folks that got them yesterday?
