So i've had my tacoma for about 5 months now. When I first got it, i was getting right around 300 miles to the tank, give or take a few. about a month ago, it just dropped to anywhere between 220-235 mpg. what the heck could have caused this? Thanks in advance for your time.

    Build thread coming soon!
Change the air filter. They will pick up 2-3mpg if the one in there is absolutely black with dirt

tune it up. check your tires, low tire pressure is the major cause of low gas mileage.

def not air pressure. Not sure the mileage would drop that low due to air pressure anyways, but as for the air filter I'm not sure about that, but It can't be an air filter, this wasn't a slow fade, it was in one day. very weird. I went from getting 300 miles to a tank on one fill up, to getting 250 on the very next fill up. not good right?

Could be a batch of shitty gas.

Also check the MAF and throttle body. They could probably use a cleaning

You should calculate your MPG using more traditional ways.. I only go 200 miles on a tank so according to that I get bad gas...

Divide how many miles you went on a tank, by how many gallons you put in

i only get about 260+- a few per tank. i find the average mpg per tank by doing what has been mentioned bef0re, miles driven/gallons put in when filling up, its usually around 18mpg which is normal for tacomas

    I can.

I noticed in his previous posts when he first got the truck he had passenger highway tires. Now he's got what looks like are Goodyear Wrangler all terrain tires. Assuming he's running a size of 265/75/16 or similar, the tires are LT tires weighing in at 44lbs each. That would account for some of the miles per gallon loss.

Yes I got the new tires about a week and a half after I bought the truck, so if that were the reason for the sudden drop it would have happened when I changed the tires in March, not now in the middle of June. so I've changed the spark plugs, it just turned over 100k and it was time anyways, the air filter is brand new, so we'll see if that helps.
