So I finally got the chance to drop off my truck and have it re-geared. So looking forward to the improved acceleration and power.

I had bought used, a set of 4.10s for the front and back.

I know that the rear should be a straight swap, however I've heard in some places here that I need a new carrier or something for the front.

Can somebody explain to me what this is and if it's necessary?
The guy doing the work has the front gears and they are only the ring and pinion. I don't want to have to find out I'm missing something while he has my truck in pieces.

Also he quoted me for 2 days of labor. Does that sound reasonable?

2 days of labor? That does not sound right to me. Especially if the rear is a simple process.

Two days of labor is almost certainly correct if it's one person working alone.

There is indeed a carrier break on 2gen Tacos...one carrier for 3.73 and down, one carrier for any ratio higher. You will need a new carrier or the appropriate ARB locker.

Sorry man. I don't think he's going to be able to do your front end. You might have 4x4 out of commission for a while whilst you get your hands on a 4.10 front carrier.

Have you re-geared a truck before or been around a truck being re-geared? To PROPERLY set everything up, I agree that 2 days is a good amount of time. You also do not want to promise a customer a shorter amount of time, what happens if something goes wrong or whatever?

I'm not sure you quite understand what's involved in a proper gear setup...

Guys..."2 days" in labor really is only 12-16 hours of actual wrench time. So a quote like that is absolutely correct

    Haha, light reading...

My regear took one very long day, but that was because we already had a second front differential prebuilt. The front was just a swap and the rear required a full set-up.
It's actually not hard to do a regear in less than 2 days, if you are not particular about how it goes back together. I wouldn't want anyone even attempting to rush gear work on my truck.
