How often do you travel off road? planning on wheels/tires? any armor?

I'm on trails every weekend. But nothing like rock sliding. I am saving for armor so I figured I needed some heavier front shocks. I have a set of wheels and tires picked out but have not bought them because I keep reading about people cutting into the fender and the frame when they put 285s, even with enough off set.
