I changed the starter after hearing that familiar click and crunch of a starter not engaging now it just clunks instead of the crunching noise when I try to start it. Any ideas on what went wrong?

Yup. Drain the oil and see what it looks like. Don't crank it anymore or you could hydro lock the motor.

AFTER you change all the fluids, take out all of your plugs, THEN turn over the engine to see if any extra water comes out of the cylinders.

How deep was the truck in the water, Mr Submarine Captain. Above the bottom of the seats? Just the engine compartment?

Well sounds like it all went wrong when you drove truck into river.

I had a buddy take in water then try to start it, bad move! He tried a couple times then decided to pull the plugs, the cylinders shot water six feet! It then started but about two weeks later while driving it detonated!! A rod had bent then broke sending it through the block!! Always pull the plugs and turn it over if u have submerged it!

I drove into a river with my deckplate out and water over the hood. Just cleaning the carbon out of the cylinders.
