Amen. This isn't intended to replace the human driver. It's intended to help the humans odds when said human messes up. As long as mine doesn't slam on the brakes when I'm going down the highway I'm glad to have a safety helper even if it only works part of the time.

^^This right here. Agreed! It kills me when I see "I'm just old fashion, I don't trust a computer to save me." Well, I didn't buy a 2018 Tacoma with TSS for me, I bought it for the soccer mom who has 4 screaming kids in the car that blows through a stop sign in front of me just as I look down to change a radio station, or check my side mirrors. I have a system in my vehicle that is solely dedicated to 100% vigilance on the road in front of me; not so that I can d*** around in my car and not pay attention, but so that when I'm performing other driving tasks something is still watching out... Can these "old fashion" drivers say they never look away, get distracted, check a rear-view mirror, rubberneck an accident, look down at their speedometer, check their current gas mileage, or... freaking sneeze (they must sneeze with their eyes open...) Get over yourselves any product aimed at saving lives that we can employ and test large scale in rear world situations is a plus.

Thank me when my 2030 self driving TSS equipped flying Tacoma saves us from an accident with your "old fashioned" ass.

Twice TSS in my 2019 SR has helped prevent me from rear ending the car in front of me when they unexpectedly hit their brakes at a speed slower than 30 mph, once at an intersection when the lights turned green and the car ahead started then hit their brakes. The other time I was distracted. The TSS warning beeps alerted me and the truck automatically started applying brakes before I went to hit the brakes myself. Of course I didn’t count on it fully stopping I applied the brakes as well.
So, does TSS work? Absolutely. Am I a bad driver? Didn’t used to be, haven’t had an accident in 30 years but TSS is starting to wonder lol.
Note: In both cases when I heard the TSS beeps I immediately let off the gas. I didn’t keep my foot on the gas to see “what would happen” as the OP did testing it running into boxes. Can’t say for sure it happened so quickly but I do think the truck automatically cut the gas. But just in case let off the gas and hit the brakes when you hear those loud fast beeps lmao.

So check it out, if you maintain the gas pedal pressed you're overriding the truck. The human input will always take precedence.
Also, the mm-wave radar will not detect certain objects, but the more important thing is it will not detect or alert on stationary objects. If it detected stationary objects it would be slamming the brakes every time you pass a road sign, a manhole cover and every other reflective object on the road. It detects shit like a car shoots around a stopped car in front of you and helps with that, or the car in front is rapid decelerating. It's a limitation of radar tech on top of the system trying automatically gain and track contacts without human intervention. Believe it or not, military systems have similar limitations. How you tell the difference between atmospheric noise, rain, and low return stationary contacts? It takes a human,.computers aren't quite there.

I drove off a cliff and the truck didn't stop me. Should I go back to the dealer?

I was headed up the I-5 the other day and experienced the tss working the first time ever. I’ve got it on the weakest setting. But traffic on that road is dense. The next day the sensor was so covered in pollen that it was shut off. I’m not a big fan of it either but I like it when other cars don’t hit me. A while back I cut off a Prius in my gti, no hater, just playing, but the Prius squawked the brakes big time and I figured I tripped the tss.

also… I’d like to see the video of the boxes.

TSS can’t detect voids or holes. You’re going to need to drive into a mountain. Report back. Lol
