Been there and done that man. I set up some cardboard cut outs of people with and without foil on them and my truck ran them over without ever missing a beat with no warning lights what so ever. I took it to Toyota and they said everything is reading as functioning properly. As long as I don’t have any sash lights on I just decided to move on.... the thought of some dude driving my truck around from the dealer and almost crashing it to test the sensors wasn’t worth it to me.

You do also have auto braking and not just warning.

Have it on my 17,but if these guys are testing it and it doesn't work, than exactly how is it going to save a life if it's been proven to not even work properly.

No - it backs off as you say when you touch the brake pedal

First off -- you do not have the collision avoidance system (AKA auto-braking) on your 17. Secondly, if it was/is not working as you state these trucks would be recalled as this definitely a safety system!

Basically, truck won't get in the way of an avoidance maneuver.

I was in the same frame of mind as those dismissing TSS as unnecessary. Thought I would never be "That Guy" as I never had a close call much less an accident (58-16 years). Prided myself in my vigilance. Now after not once, but twice That Guy. Changed my mind. Whatever cost it added to my truck, it saved in deductible and subsequent increased premiums. Not even including paperwork and possible lawsuit from the other guy claiming he can't get it up anymore because of me. Umbrella insurance, people.

Still kicking myself for being distracted. Signs of aging.

Driving home from the dealership after i bought my '18, a guy slammed on brakes to make an illegal u-turn in front of me. I just happened to be putting my phone on the wireless charger at the time, and looking down. My foot was still on the accelerator, I heard a beeping noise, and the truck locked up all 4 tires and i stopped about 5 feet from smashing a full size Dodge. So, I'm not sure on how it works, but it brought my truck to a complete stop. I was quick on the brake after it stopped so i couldn't tell you if the 2 seconds it cancels or not. I didn't even know the truck would do that. Salesman only explained it had radar for cruise control. So saved my 5 minute old truck.

The only time my pre-collision alert goes off is when there is nothing in front of me. Never makes a peep if I'm coming up to someone fairly quickly at a stop light or something.

I think it's on the most sensitive setting but will check again.

Mine came on when I was doing 60 coming up to stopped traffic in the other lane. Once it realized it wasn’t in my lane it stopped with all the racquet. No auto braking just beeping and warnings.

That is exactly why it is there -- for that odd second or two of inattention combined with something not normal in front of you!

Also --if the "system" is similar to Subaru's --the system will let you know when it stops working due to a problem with the weather, or a problem with the system itself.
