if your in an area prone to rust I would recommend it. Or on 2g Tacoma's and 5g 4runners where there is a hole in the frame that gets covered its not a bad idea to paint it. I leave that to the discretion of the end user.

Derick, your site mentions local pick up as an option. On the site I couldn't readily find an address to see if that were possible. You might consider adding it to the contact page. Of course I could have overlooked it.

Your rear bumper is on my short list of 2 or 3.

No swing outs have shipped yet, but have a handful left that aren’t claimed. Should be entering production in about 2 weeks. So lead time on a rear bumper with swing out would likely be 6-8 weeks if placed today. Need to update the website haha

I'm interested in a rear bumper and swing-out. Do you think the swing out could support a hitch receiver for a bike rack? It looks like there's space where a receiver could be added in the center. My bike rack with two bikes is around 120 pounds. I guess that's a lot of leverage on the swing-out, so maybe there's a reason why I can't find many swing-outs with a hitch receiver.

Derik, this will have a front hoop option, correct?

im actually exploring this option with a local customer so you can still open the swing out when your bikes are on. It’ll be a bit before I have an answer

If I didn't already have a dope set of bumpers, I'd be all over these!

Not necessarily a critique, but why do most bumpers stick out so far. Personally I'd want to have it as close as possible to the body, preferably even flush with the vertical face of the grill.

Also, not a fan of the bumper covering the grill and making it hard to pull the grill off. I wish the center section of the bumper was dropped 2-3" to be under the grill line.

(My $0.02- and my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it..)

Disclaimer: comments based off my bumper- but it is similar to the DRT design.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Your bumper is there to protect breakable (and bendable) stuff. It won't protect breakable stuff if it doesn't stick out past the breakable stuff.

I get your point on the grille, but how often do you take your grille out? The space to mount a winch is very limited, you need that 2-3" you want to take away.

One last thought: Why do you have so much of your winches rope exposed to the elements? Road grime will severely degrade the life of said rope.

perfectly fair question. 1st I want to acknowledge ours is a few inches closer than what yours appears to be.

BUT to answer you’re question it’s real estate. There’s only so much room to fit the things everyone wants and amount of work they want to do or what they’re willing to cut from their truck.

our hybrid and plate bumper has this in mind for what “overlanders” typically are looking for:

light options, weight, winch fitment and ease of install. Ours is designed to fit a winch without a control box relocation so this pretty much determines where the winch goes. This makes installing the bumper much much easier for one person.

secondly we wanted the fairlead recessed so it wasn’t getting smacked with rocks, which is also partly why the d rings are the way they are along with being inline with the bumper mounts.

there’s reason behind the placement of everything for the purpose it serves. This is why we are coming out with the crossmember delete bumper. The Hybrid/plate bumper & the crossmember delete bumper have two different customer bases.

    hope that helps!

    EDIT*

forgot to answer you’re grill question.

to be 100% honest the bumpers that are flat on top like mine are like that because it’s much easier to mfg. we are all fitting in a tight bubble of what people expect and trying to be price competitive along with keeping lead times down. Like I said, every single aspect of a bumper or any parts is thought about. What it does, how well it does it, how hard is it to produce, etc.

“Just adding a dip” isn’t that simple. It’s elevated fixtures, it’s adding multiple new parts and components to make up that small dip. It’s more time. Just for some honest info :D
