I just picked up my 2022 TRD Sport two weeks ago and every time I go through the car wash that I drove my 2005 Tacoma through 1000’s of times it folds up against the truck. Anyone had to adjust theirs to make it stiffer?

    Oh look, another mod....
Every time I take my 21' Taco through the drive-thru car wash BOTH mirrors fold up about 90% of the time. They're designed to do that. I wouldn't try to tighten them up so they don't fold, you'll make them too rigid and when they're supposed to fold, they'll break off.

    Leave 'em be.

Mine do the same thing... So what I do is... get out of my truck and put them back where they go.

I only have one or the other fold about 1/3 of the time at two car wash places. Maybe try a different car wash.

Had no idea this would be a complaint I'd ever see...then again I wouldn't dare take my truck or any vehicle through an automatic car wash...hah.

you are supposed to fold your mirrors in before going into the wash if you don't want to rip your mirrors off

especially a non touch-free one. That's like washing 1000 cars with the same sponge. So much dirt and crap lodged in the brushes.

there's a new car wash around here that uses some plastic/polymer looking brushes that don't appear to trap any dirt.

How many times have you washed your new truck in these past couple of weeks?

Every two days or so. Used to hand wash 3 kiddos and 20 years ago. Do keep a good layer of wax on my trucks at all times. Love how no one has answered my question thus far.

Mine does the same thing. Driver's side folds easily, but the passenger side is usually fine.

There have been other posts about it. Dealerships would replace the entire mirror if the truck was under warranty.
I've never been up for tearing the mirror apart to try and stiffen up the detent, so I just deal with it.

Is this a car wash with the spinning brushes? If it is, I never take my truck through those... might as well be sand blasting your truck!! Where I work, all the fleet vehicles go through one and we are constantly repairing broken parts from it. Broken mirrors, torn off plates, even a mirror torn off and put through the windshield... that was a good one. The thing that those brushed do quite well is destroy plastic parts... a brand new clear headlamp will look like it has been operating on a gravel road for years after a couple of washes.

Maybe a quick wash in a pressure wash style ( at best good for knocking off a layer of dust ) but hand wash is the only way for me.

You’re right, I always judge a vehicle by how well the mirrors stay in place in a car wash.

Rotting frames, truly shitty rear leaf springs, crap fuel mileage, those mean nothing…..
