    Hello all,

I bought a 2021 Tacoma TRD off-road that came from the dealer with a small lift. I, in a dreamy-eyed daze, assumed that since the dealer put it on, it was the new TRD lift kit. Turns out the kit was from DSI (dealer services international). It’s true… I should have taken my time and just looked, researched, asked, anything... but this was something of a midlife crisis purchase and the dealer might as well have been convincing a little girl to take a free kitten.

On the freeway, it rides a bit like a boat on a windy day. It's not really that bad, but it is a little loose. It’s been on easy dirt with a few bumps and in some snow. No rubbing from the tires at all so far.

I was a bit of a motorhead for a while as a teenager and did some uneducated off roading (going really fast and hard until something broke), but it’s been a minute (30 years to be exact). I’m a little lost sorting out what lift my taco came with and if I should consider replacing it.

After searching and reading the sticky threads, this is what I think I know: The shocks look to be stock for TRD off-road (which would NOT be 4600 from what I read, but I can’t seem to figure out which Bilstein series they are). The front, I think, just has a coilover spacer? The rear is a mystery to me. I don’t see a block and it looks like the stock leaf set. Any thoughts? Maybe only the front is lifted as a leveling kit and the tires are doing the rest?

    Wheels: 17 x 8.5, 0 offset

    Tires: 285/70 R17

Vehicle use: daily driver (work from home), camping, trips in snow, off roading (light to moderate).

Maybe this is fine to leave as-is for now with only moderate off roading expected?

I was contemplating going with the TRD lift from the dealer, but I’m pretty sure 285/70 R17s will rub. Though, I'm not sure it would sit much different than it does now? In either case, I’m not against selling the wheel/tire set up and getting something that will fit without off road rubbing. I'd like to have a good setup for when I get a little too far in the woods… or in case of armageddon, zombie apocalypse, running from the law (kidding), etc.

Any thoughts, input, advice, opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping a Taco noob.

You have stock dampers aka shocks, which are "TRD" yellow and quite decent compared to the Sport and non-TRD Tacomas..
You have stock coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the back.
I agree that you got a "front leveling kit".

Your truck is completely ruined. Ill do you a favor and even trade you for my 17' sport. LMAO .... Yea you have completely stock suspension, other then the spacer up front. I would check your alignment. Other than that it should be driving pretty good.

I also would think that if you want to go with a trd lift, that you would have no trouble with your existing tire. It lifts the same amount from what it looks like you have.

Thanks for the welcome and for confirming!

I could not bear to tell you how much it added, but it was more than $60  Of course, the wheels and tires were in the price too... AND the magical permaplate coating AND the super high-tech Karr security lol. The supply of trucks was (is) waaaaaay low, so I knew the package was likely overpriced (more than usual), but I at least assumed it had the TRD lift. It was Temecula Valley Toyota in CA. I am getting the pulse vibration between 25-30mph so I am for sure going to call them for that anyway.

Damn, don't scare me like that lol. I will check the alignment this week for sure.

I suppose now I can go brag about my 285/70r17's not rubbing with only spacers up front?
