I'm totally interested in this for my truck. Here's my question though... I've got two spare rock lights from a previous mod that I want to rig up as courtesy lights (i.e. come on with the dome light when I unlock the doors from the key fob or open the doors). I'm not interested in using a switch from inside the cab to illuminate them since I'll only really be using them when I approach the truck from the outside and plus I have no more remaining switch blanks in the cab. I've got a blue seas fuse block so I'll run my (constant) power and ground for the lights right from there. I get that I have to tap the yellow wire inside the driver's A-pillar, but if I'm not using a separate switch, where else am I running/tapping wires from the harness?? Thanks, and let me know if you've got any units left in stock, or I'll stay tuned for your next release!

If you do not want to run them switched then you can just keep your rock lights connected to constant 12v+ (Resting at 12V) then have the ground hooked up to the negative of the dome light. You wouldn't need this harness unless you want the functionality of both. Which I do recommend, it is very nice to be able to turn them on when offroading and certain times on the road.

Update. SOLD OUT batch #4. Shipping out the remaining orders today.

Stay tuned for batch #5. Will update when I have an eta on them, have some vacation coming up and in the middle of a move so it could be a couple weeks before next batch.

Interesting. So you're saying to run my 12v constant power to the rock lights and tap the rock lights' ground to the yellow wire in the driver's a-pillar (instead of just grounding them to the body/aux fuse panel)? This will allow the rock lights to come on with the dome light? I understand basic 12v wiring just fine but this negative switched stuff confuses me. How does negative switched stuff differ than just regular 12 v? What's the advantages/disadvantages for Toyota to set it up this way? Thanks in advance for the education.

Switching the ground allows optional switching of multiple items without need of additional relays. IE Dome, Map, Cargo lights all on the conditional ground. It also makes it possible to fade all of them together via PWM I think.

Yes that is what I am saying. Let the ground be fed from the dome light, while the rock lights are resting at 12v+.

Now if you want the capability to do both this is where the harness plays in. It switches the negative to a positive to feed into the rock lights and bypass the switch. Again it is very nice to be able to turn on at anytime, as well as the courtesy lights feature. But depends on your application and what you are wanting. If you want JUST the courtesy lights then you don't need the harness. If you want BOTH options, insert harness.

Think you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. Especially with the fade. The dome light sends a pulsed negative signal to dim the dome light. My harness uses a capacitor to eliminate relay chatter due to the pulsed signal from the dome. And a diode as a failsafe for backflow current to the dome.

Okay, that definitely helps clear that up. Like I said, I understand how to wire lights but when it comes to the more complicated nuances of these things, it's above me. So when would it be advantageous to be able to operate the rock lights while driving? To maneuver around obstacles and see just where your wheels are at while wheeling at night? Any time you'd see a use for it not in a wheeling application, like on regular roads? Excuse my ignorance on the subject, I don't do much wheeling.

Maybe someone else can chime in here but couple examples in my experience....

Working under the rig in the dark
    Boat ramp at night
Camping at night (usually keep em on... Good low light)

Only had 2 pre-orders, not enough for a whole batch.

Will be a few weeks before I get the next batch ready.

Will still be around for questions however.

I should be able to get back on these in limited capacity next week.
