I think the prospect of a second alternator is interesting. Lighter than a second battery, and provides a level of redundancy even if you don’t need its peak output. I like the location down low like that too. Having said that, I’m currently in a good position with my 270amp DC Power alternator. Neat idea and good luck with the development.

Does this mod require a longer belt?

I sure hope you have a cover for that enormous positive copper bus bar. Would hate to drop something on it and then have it touch a grounded surface. Ouch!

I'm somewhat surprised that the two alternator voltage regulators work so well together. Maybe at high current draws when demand is high but it seems at lower demand one regulator would dominate while the second alternator "shuts-off" since it sees a slightly higher voltage than it's regulator puts out. Getting two separate alternator regulators tuned to the exact same output voltage isn't easy. But if all you care about is output at high demand...then I'm sure it's fine.

When I worked on boats with two engine and both alternators were charging the same bank of batteries, we usually used a Balmar Centerfielder which balances the output of the two alternators. Balmar makes great programmable voltage regulator and marine alternators too. Good company.

And by the way...very nice install and engineering. Well done and it looks sharp too!

Wow this is insane. OP have you actually measured the peak output from both at the same time, or is your 622A value just the nameplate numbers added up? 622 amps at 14.4v works out to a little over 12hp. Wonder how the serpentine belt likes that load?

Id imagine this would be great for folks who do hardcore 'touring' setups like you see in AUS with massive inverters powering electric appliances like water heaters and stove tops. That being said wonder how long the 2nd alt would last being mounted so low subject to lots of mud and dirt?

    Either way pretty interesting solution.

With a setup like that you could be a mobile shore power unit for a decent sized boat! Shoot you could run smaller machine tools.

A few aircraft companies make a load balancer in a smaller form factor, but they do it by bypassing the internal voltage regulator. Slightly different technique than the Balmar load balancers, but same effect. https://planepower.aero/product/aircraft-voltage-regulators/

I am not going to be making any kits available anymore. I put a lot of work into the engineering of this only to have people waste my time tire kicking and trying to copy my design. There are 6 setups out there in the wild maybe the owners will post up some pictures one day. I have updated the truck with more amplifier and battery power. i will post some pictures and info in another thread.

Or.. you know... there were people genuinely interested to buy the kit, or individual parts, from you and you completely ghosted. I get it, you want to keep your secrets and not help others in fear of being copied.

But to offer something for sale per our email conversation and then suddenly ghost when the interest to purchase was there .. yep waste of everyone's time for sure.

    Two sided street bud.

As I recall you contacted me and requested that i sell you a kit without the alternator. I told you that it only comes with it. If I sold just the bracket to you without the alternator I would have a $350 alternator laying around that I could do nothing with unless I made another kit. I informed you that I was not going to make any more kits and that this was the last one. You told me that you were not interested in it because you could get your own alternator local to you. I had other buyers ready to take the whole kit and I told you so.

The last flaky buyer was from Hawaii and he wanted it and I told you if he bought the whole thing I would be able to purchase material with the funds and CNC one last bracket. I packed up the whole kit drove 20 min to the UPS store waited in line for 15min to get a shipping quote and drove 20 min back home. I told the guy the shipping costs and he said it was to much to ship. At that point I told you he flaked out. I was done dealing with everybody. You then told me you wanted the whole kit. At that point I realized that you would be difficult to deal with.

So yes you wasted my time emailing me back and forth trying to get your way. You only wanted it after you could not buy it the way you wanted. The world does not work like that. You should of just said I want it here is my money first thing. Instead you waffled back and forth about it. So yes a Tire kicker.

As far as your comment before you edited your post. I have no secret. There are Photos anybody can see how it was done and do it themselves. I also do not mind helping people that want to help themselves. I sold the last kit to another Forum member Fi taco. He is local, we installed it on his truck in less than an hours time. This is the same kit another guy returned with sharpie trace marks around the bracket that said it would not fit. Then he had the nerve to email me after to get the dimensions of the spacers in the bag that he forgot to open.

You do not know what kind of BS I have gone thru dealing with people so do not act like I am some kind of bad guy. Two sided street is right. The only problem is you are only looking at one side of the road. Now I have wasted more time typing this in response to you being unhappy because you did not get your way. I am sure a lot of other members would have ghosted you too if they had to deal with you. You posting this is a fine example of what kind of person you are to deal with. I dodged a big bullet and I am glad I trusted my instinct.

    I am not your BUD.

    HAHAH sooo angry!!

No sweat off my shoulders. We figured it out with my build. I applaud you for the lengthy response and taking the extra time to read the edits as well! So many delightful accusations thrown around and is a.. "fine example of what kind of person you are to deal with." Bravo! I had a great laugh.

Though bits and pieces are arguable at best depending who you ask, but just as you said... "The only problem is you are only looking at one side of the road."

So we agree to disagree and life goes on its merry way, eh?

    Cheers bud!!

If it is no sweat off your shoulders why post anything at all?

Everything I stated was the truth and you know it.

Your posts in this thread have contributed nothing. Nothing you said was useful to anybody.

Why bump this thread if you're not selling them anymore? Also. I wouldn't want your crusty old alternator either. Sell the bracket and let people know what alternator works with it.

Nobody is bumping this thread. I was attacked and responded. You need to learn to read before you type something. The alternator part number is in the thread. The "old crusty alternator" was a new one in the box but you would not know that because you assume stuff that you know nothing about. There are to many people like you on the forums that assume everything and expect something for nothing. I am not selling anybody anything and I do not want anything from anybody.

Mods please lock this thread. It is here just to show that it can be done.
