just wondering... has anyone tried to make a mount setup that runs off the frame to help support this weight?

Still disagree. There are plenty of 05's running around with rusty frames and dual battery setups doing just fine and have seen some gnarly shit i'm sure. The point I'm making is, unless you are bashing on the truck, its gonna be fine. Hard hits are what makes shit break. Offroading isn't going to break stuff if done responsibly.

I've thought about that as well, I dont see why you couldn't, however the support would probably be barely stronger than the inner fender since you cant gusset the support without going in to the fender well and possibly impeding tire travel

Based on what I have been told by various body shop workers, a cracking radiator support is overwhelmingly common on Tacoma's.

Before you say that it happened because of the accident they are in for, the hit occured in area's not even close to the front end sheetmetal.

    Disagree with your disagree.

I was talking about the physical mount. I am looking at putting the two batteries in the space of the original battery with an adaptor kit like the one mentioned by armortechoffroad.

As far as batteries go I asked my local mechanic about Optima and he told me that they are constantly replacing them because of the cold in Colorado. I live in a ski town in the winter and they tell me that they don't do well at altitude. Some of their clients are guys using plows etc but I don't want to end up getting a battery I have to replace every year.

I have a dual battery tray from columbia overland that I modified a bit to run 2 group 31 batteries it is all controlled by an IBS dual battery system. If anyone would like to pm me for pictures and info Im happy to help any way that I can. I feel like a dual battery setup should be the first mod that should be done.

I would like to see that setup.

I do not have the tools or the skills to do the work myself, (YET) so is there a shop that you recommend in Denver or in the mountains? I live near Aspen.

I've had good luck with mine. I don't live in such cold conditions as you, but I cycle mine all the time. On a normal outing camping or one winch pull would kill a normal battery.

Optimas have a good warranty and my first one lasted 5 years until I hit it with a hammer.

The only thing I would advise against two batteries in the stock location, and what lead me to develop mine, has a little to do with what @12TRDTacoma mentioned. Two batteries, especially two 31 group batteries, weigh a lot. If you ever pull out your battery and take off that plastic liner on the bottom, there isn't much there to hold the batteries.

I don't have anything against that kit, nor an experience with it, but in my opinion that is too much weight on that one corner of the truck.

I was trying to get a new terminal on and I was tapping it to get it to seat. Bad idea. A really expensive mistake. I think something inside the battery got disconnected.

With a 2015 you need to move emissions pump and remount power steering reservoir over about 1 in.

I like the passenger side location for the aux, would I be correct in assuming that I can still add a snorkel if I place the second battery there?

I believe so! I think a snorkel adapts to the factory intake. We'll find out soon though as I am getting a snorkel my self.

Nice, the snorkel was the next upgrade, but a friend decided to buy the wife and I an ARB fridge so I am accelerating the Dual battery install. My next mod day/days has become quite intimidating.

AUX Batteries, IBS monitoring Bussman Fuse panel, your switch panel, Pelfrey bumpers front and back, rigid lights, winch, 886 coils - every is just piling up in a room in my house. Once the bumpers arrive I'll have my work cut out for me.

Trying to figure out the wiring and future wiring requirements at this point as I'll have the truck dismantled.

I was able to install a snorkel after the 2nd battery was installed.
