I would just leave it on the side it is on now, then you don't have to move any wires and its easy to undo if you decide to go back stock later.

I will say that every dual exhaust 6 cylinder I ever heard sounded silly and made me laugh every time I heard it, but some people like it just because it makes more noise even if the noise sounds weird

it will exit same place it is now. i guess sound is a personal preference kinda deal but ive heard a 4l taco and 4L ranger with true duals and i liked the way they sounded. Not even looking for a louder exhaust. just a different sound. il still have the single exhaust to put back on.

I guess its what you are used to and it sounds nothing like a v8 with duals so I guess that's why I think it sounds funny

I guess its just because I am old fashioned and used to the deep throaty muscle car dual exhausts

I suppose picking the right mufflers for it is the biggest part of getting a good sound out of them

I agree, its best if your going to do it, then do it right and have separate isolated pipes that never meet.

if your not doing that then just put a 2 into 1 wye after the muffler to run two tail pipes out the back

in an x pipe the seperate gasses stay on their own paths for the most part but the pulses interacting help with scavenging. a single pipe from headers with a 1 to 2 muffler is what i consider "fake" duals.

Yes doooo it. And tell us how it worked. Most 6es that I have put separate pipes on have worked great. 911,svx,2.8 Chevy . I think a 6 runs better , the one exception was an odd fire Buick in a jeep. The stupid thing had to have a x pipe.

But put quiet mufflers on it!!!

    Good luck

so your crossing them after the cats and before the muffler to "share" the exhaust back pressures?

The pulses from the firing cylinders help scavenge(pull out) the exhaust from other cylinders as the exhaust valves open. Goin to true dials can effect the timing of these pulses causing them to be less efficient at scavenging. Adding an H or X pipe is supposed help keep these pulses in tune to better scavenge exhaust.

only negative that might happen going to duals aside from the sounding weird would possibly be a loss of power in the bottom end or lower rpm range.

An x pipe is actually MORE efficient than two separate pipes. Plenty of muscle cars use this approach, like the ubiquitous V8 mustang. There's much to be said for cross-pulse tuning. A V-6 might benefit even more since there is 240 degrees of crank rotation between each exhaust pulse on a bank.

I've seen duals done on the 3.4 and it sounds decent, but i personally prefer the single pipe exhaust

I'd consider a mustang as "true duals". An x-pipe actually improves performance over two completely separate pipes. Ditto for h-pipes. It is all about using the pulses to help scavenge opposing bank cylinders. I would therefore not think of an x-pipe as some sort of "step-down" from two separate pipes, rather it is an improvement.
