Put a 10-20 gallon boat/marine tank in the bed, with a transfer pump. Only fill it / use it when you need it. ( towing, off-road exploring, emergencies, etc. ) Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure your calculation is incorrect regarding the weight. I say this because when fuel weight is factored into piston engine airplanes, the calculation is 6-pounds per gallon, not 8-pounds like you used. So, an extra 30 gallons of fuel is only 180 pounds.

I kinda want for the Tundra, not gonna lie. Definitely don’t need. Would be fun to have doubly the range and that’s the one where fuel cost sucks the most.

Oh oh oh! I can share something I recently learned here that actually made me feel a little better about my CUV grade payload. Toyota lists payload capacity *after* budgeting 150 lbs. per available passenger seat. So your actual global payload limit is (150*4 or 5 depending on AC/DC config) + (listed payload rating).

For me, my porker is something like 940# capacity, and knocked down another 14# per the sticker in the door due to accessories. So (5*150) + 940 - 14 = 1676# payload vs. 926#. Damn near twice what I thought. This is how they do it across the model lineup, so a Rav4 still has a higher rating than a pickemup truck, but at least that’s a far more practical number. Taking in to account me, my wife, the pup and a full tank total 500 or so, we still have 1100# remaining before we are at the legal limit.

But, this is probably the time where someone pops in and says that what I read was a sarcastic joke and it is completely fabricated and I am back to having short payload syndrome.

Yes you are correct. 6.07 lbs. not 8.3 I stated. Didn’t realize the weight difference was that much. I stand corrected. As far as total weight I think it depends on the final configuration, larger gas tank, double gas tank…so many choices so little time. Lol

I use a 15-gallon Titan Sidekick tank- it’s really for extra fuel storage, not a tank. You use a siphon hose to transfer to your gas tank. It’s very well built, is secure in the bed, and very convenient for towing and extending your range.

Nice! Thank you. I would love a long range tank but the cost is prohibitive. This is perfect.

Just to be clear, I never meant "1000" to be any kind of limit. It was a big, round number I pulled out of my ass which the Tacoma can EASILY handle. Personally, I'm not one to worry too much about the stated weight limits of a vehicle (I've had 2000lbs in the bed and truck handled it fine), sounds like you aren't either if you're loading up your Fit like that :)

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Years ago What i did was get a fuel cell that fit across the bed in the front mounted it in permanently !

Electric valve to open and close to gravity feed into the main tank .

Being able to transfer fuel into the main tank as needed . I t worked great for my application !

Being before the days of crazy high prices I have no idea the cost today .

Adapting to be filled with a cap would not be a major problem.

We're talking about fuel here. You're not comparing apples to apples. There's no meaningful difference (except cost and space savings) between the stock tank + a couple jugs of gas versus removing the stock tank and adding a 30gal one. People haul gas cans all the time and no one is crying about load limits when they do that. This thread isn't about load limits, it's about fuel capacity. OF COURSE you should be cognizant about the weight you're hauling. And yeah, extra fuel might be part of that. But that's another topic, for another thread. This thread is about a better way to carry more fuel without taking up space in your bed.

I added a secondary 22 gallon tank behind the rear axle in addition to the stock tank
    been working flawlessly since install.

Single fuel fill neck, it fills the main tank first, then will fill the aux tank.
Evap has not noticed anything and haven't had any CEL/codes.

Sorry this is the only pic i have at the moment, currently doing a bunch of other mods.
