i dont think you're seeing 'quad projectors'... with BMWs the outer projectors are low and high beams. turning on the high beam opens a shutter in the same housing letting out max light output. the inside projector you see is the opposing corner lights, left one is for right turns, they are halogen.

you might have known all that and i just mis-read your post :)

Could be... I've been noticing more and more Beemers that seem to have halogens in the two center positions, and I was always under the assumption that even with dual projectors, the inside would have to be halogen due to the warm-up time of HIDs.

I've definitely seen quad-projector housings on Beemers that are otherwise unmolested, so I'm assuming they are factory... but ya, the inside lenses may indeed be for cornering, but I've never seen them fire.

How much easier is it to just replace the projectors with better ones in ebay type housings as opposed to doing a complete retro fit on the stock housing? I have a set of retro's that I got off a member on here but would still like to know how to do this stuff, I'm just the type that needs to see it be done before I can do it.

    heres a better photo...
the inside ones are the cornering lights, they'll only come on when the car is in reverse (dont ask) or when making turn, either at speed with the signal on, or with the wheel turned at a certain angle while stopped or going very slow, they are halogen, you'll rarely see them on, left one for right turns, right one for left turns. the outer ones are the real projectors, when you flash the high beams it opens a shutter

man, all this talk and photos in the other thread has got me thinking about doing this now too. dam you guys :)

Yup... it's been done a couple of times.
One of the upgrades (maybe even Rascal's?) ended up destroying the first set of eBay projectors.

It seriously is easier to retro a set of DS2 projectors into the stock housings.
If you're going whole-hog with the FX-Rs in the stock housings, then you aren't looking at that different of a project on the eBay housings.

Main difference is, for DS2 (or Mini-H1) in stock housings, it's plug and play once you cook the housings apart. Install, reseal, aim, and drive.
The FX-R or eBay projector retrofit is going to involve some trial and error on the bench getting the aim as close as possible to the original configuration so you have enough room on the housing adjusters to properly aim.

Remember... on the FX-R retrofit, you're cutting a 2" hole in the back of the reflector bowl and mounting the projectors with 4 screws. There's a LOT of room to mis-aim them before you epoxy the screws into place.

B737.... You have a 2012, you're going to have some down-time on the truck unless you invest in a spare pair of housings.
Honestly, I think if you did that, you'd be able to easily sell your stock housings to someone else wanting to do a retro without having their truck down for 3 days.

Most 2011 and older owners just buy a new set of housing and retro those... for a couple of reasons. One being no issues with the truck being down while waiting for the paint (if you do the BHLM or even black out the reflectors) to offgas before resealing, and also in my case, my '08 housings are showing their age.

Unfortunately, Depo and the other common aftermarket companies (and Depo is one of the better ones) do not yet offer 2012 housings... leaving you with the OEM housings at probably $700 for the pair, compared to $180 shipped for a pair of '05-'11 Depo housings.

    Correction: http://www.partswebsite.com/1sttoyo...d=30121&subcatid=30292&section=105&type=parts
    $500+ shipping for both housings.

    rich your not helping! :)
i would def pick up an additional set of light housings to work with and go from there. might have to wait and see if depo comes out with something. this mod adds up, but these jobs you guys are doing are coming out awesome.

That's not mine... My new Depo housings remain unopened, retro kit showed up yesterday.
I hope to work on it this weekend, won't likely install until next weekend.

The above photo is AsianAnts's truck. Not exactly the "affordable" (I'm not going to use the "C" word) TRS retro kit.
