    wow!!!
    thanks, wolfpack!!!

like i said... I have a shed FULL of aftermarket Taco parts that i got while i waited for my 2012 Tacoma to arrive!!!

I originally had questions about the single VVT and the drums...
had NO idea about the lousy front and rear suspension, and the pedal feel!!!

i didn't expect Toyota to change ANYthing for me...
but i wonder why they won't change/fix stuff like this for ALL OF US!?!
(i assume they know the issues, and just won't react until SOMEbody steals their sales.)

    Best of luck, guys...

i gotta tow a boat... woulda been nice to have a bit more torque and a bit less brake fade...
but i'm definitely not gonna risk my wife and kids on a suspension that can't keep itself in tires and handle the load!!!

thanks again for the 'heads-up,' wolfpack!!!!

boat's close to the upper limit of the Tacoma, fully loaded...
any additional torque would be gratefully accepted.... hills, ramps, etc.
if the rear suspension can't handle it, i'm so grateful to wolfpack for the 'heads-up.'
brake fade? like i said, near the towing limit... was concerned about fade typical of drums... even though they don't do much anyway. was looking at the TRD front brake upgrade kit, but that's only for the 5-lug configuration.
i just was trying to avoid lugging a full-size around town day-in and day-out.

not "constantly" towing... just occasionally, ergo... was hoping for mid-size.

...but it only takes one bad day, doesn't it.
...especially with my precious cargo sitting next to me and behind us.

didn't even consider rear suspension issues... duh.
    thanks.

Now look, if you want more power, throw in a supercharger. If you want REAL leather, go buy some seats with REAL leather. Overall, if you are going to complain about the best midsize pickup on the market, you don't have to buy one. So what if it comes with drums in the rear, IT STILL WORKS. Bottom line, the truck gets the job done and I have no complaints. Its a good, great looking, reliable truck. Do yourself a favor, buy yourself a truck that helps you sleep at night.

That is exactly why I no longer own my '03 Tundra.

Awesome truck, but the same 6500lb limit as the Taco.
I was considering buying a toy hauler, and the only thing the Tundra would safely tow would be the low-end Carson 16ft.
The 16ft didn't bother me... more than enough for my and the wife or me and my buddy.
Carson bothered me. Weekend Warrior and other higher-end haulers don't fall apart when towed out to remote campsites off of fire roads.
Carson haulers are not happy off of pavement.

Well when I posed the question to a TRD Engineer I met at a show, he said that the Tacoma was not really designed for the extra horsepower, I.e handling, I then asked what about the S/C that can be purchased and installed from the dealer, his answer was the rarity of customer that can and will shell out that much money for the added power was small plus being stuck paying for higher priced fuel was the other.

I have been pushing the envelope trying to get answers on why I could not install a dual VVTi engine into my 2011 and have Toyota tune via Toyota tech link, after all the dual VVTi is triggered with oil pressure and finely tuned with the same ECU as the FJ/Tacoma, hence a programming change, tune would be needed.
I was told by Toyota from Japan, there are too many liabilities involved in doing so and the safety concerns are too great to warrant the consumer the possibility of more power from an engine exchange outside the originally tested configuration.
keep in mind I have had over 200 correspondents on this matter as I feel I paid a good amount of money to be cheated by HP/TQ that may make my purchased experience even better.

LOL, but the S/C over he counter solution is more power...WOW

Ya, sometimes things just don't make sense.

GM upgraded the 2004.5-2006.25 LLY Duramax to the 2006.25 LBZ, 60hp more, but the "Topkick" model trucks (C4500 and larger)... the true "medium duty" models... got the detuned program.
    ???????
The trans was the same Allisson 1000... same trans used in tanks.
One would think that the universals in the 4500+ trucks would be stronger....

Yet GM refused to certify the higher output tune for the larger trucks.
The tune level on the new LBZ engines was actually LOWER hp than the old 2001-2004.5 LB7. They were stuck at, IIRC, around 280hp.
